Very Upset!!!what Do I Do??

That does suck. And the taxidermist should have pointed it out to you before performing the service. But
how he was dragged into the back of a pickup
I have seen this happen. Last year I saw a deer come back into camp with most of the fur on one side rubbed off from dragging it.

Hide slipping

I have a buddy that does taxidermy and I have been around it for years. It sounds like the hide was left out to long(turned green on the skin side ) before being put in the tanning agent and possibly not scraped enough. As far of getting it re-mounted its not a problem, like the others were saying you can get another cape, as far as a skull mount they have a look a like skull that they put your skull cap in and blend an epoxy around the base and blended in to look natural. First I would get my money back and tell everyone I know about the s**tty job they did.

Did you sign a contract? I would go back and have it redone with a new cape. Just don't use a doe cape. Any good Taxidermist will recape it for you at no cost if it was indeed his fault. I am curious why you chose this taxi. Was a major factor in choosing him his price or turnaround time? Has he been in business a long time or new? Keep us posted.

You probably feel like caping the taxidermist, well maybe scalping a little. :D Don't lose your cool, ask him nicely like most have mentioned and see if he does good on what he goofed on. If he doesn't then maybe we'll se you on t.v.. josh

curious why you chose this taxi

A police officer buddy of my dads talked me into using him. I seen the work he did for the officer and thought that it looked good -- right now it is back there and he is suppose to recape it. I will give him a chance to make it right, but only one chance.

I've been told by a few taxi that the hair slipping is from the tanning process not being dragged, if it was from drag it would be on the side the animal had contact with the ground or truck and that would have been from the shoulders on back not the neck

My husband's 6' 3" he loaded into the truck for me and not one time did the neck touch the ground or the truck while he was loading it.

By the end of the month, I should have my deer back again - hopefully done correctly with a hide that doesn't smell rotten!!

Deer Is Done

Well the taxidermist called - said that he was done with my deer. My husband is going tomorrow to pick it up - and I believe he's going to ask for a partial refund. Whether he gets it or not is another story! Will post pics once its in my hands again.

Deer is back

:):) Picked up the deer today - well to make a long story short - the taxidermist made good on his promise to fix it. After he pulled the old hide, he said that there was a 3x3 area that didn't tan right.

Pictures to come......

Finally here - the pictures!!

Sorry it took so long to get them on here. I had to wait to my hubby found a spot to put it in our dining room area. Our original spot above the fireplace wouldn't work. The antlers would have been in the rafters!!

The one on the left is mine, the other one is my hubby's that he shot in 2000. Now I need to get the his and her name plaques (ha, ha)

WOW, now thats a buck! Now that its said and done, good thing you got it done right, thats a true trophy, congrats!

I have had 6 animals mounted by taxidermists. I have yet to meet a taxidermist that falls into the realm or normal human. Unless it is a big shop with loads of customers and been there for years, I say don't use them.

I know, everyone knows a perfect taxidermist that does what he says he will do and has your animal ready when he says it will be ready and professionally tans the hides and there is never a problem.

I, however have yet to meet this person. This business is art. They are practicing their craft and some do great work. I just have had bad luck finding one that is good at it, honest, not bankrupt, strait forward, and when they say it will be ready by June-July and you call in late July they ANSWER THE PHONE AND GIVE YOU THE NEWS.
Just my little world of taxidermy experience. Pay when you pick the finished product up or you will be Sorry, :)
