I think it should be noted that technology, in the form of electronic communication and high-speed printing presses, plays a role in this phenomenon. The emotional frenzy the anti's can generate could not have happened in a world where the only form of communication was through the handwirtten or spoken word.
It has been said before, and it bears repeating again. If you could bring Aristotle forward in time to the days of the founding fathers, he would adjust fairly easily to the changes, as they would basically be cosmetic and cultural. If you were to bring Ben Franklin forward into today's world, it's not certain he would be able to adjust.
Does anyone here know of any psychologists who might be interested in doing a study of the anti mindset? It would be interesting to see the reactions of the anti's were a scholarly work to be done showing they were intollerant, narrow-minded, simpleton bigots.
