Value of a Rem 700 BDL

My best-bud got a .222Rem model 788 with a good ol' Vari-X II mounted in a trade years ago. After shooting it I was super jealous cause that thing was a true tack-driver.

The thing about things that you really want is you won't regret paying too much until you stumble across another one just like it for cheaper. In your case, that most likely will never happen, so just enjoy it for the rest of your life. I would pay $400 or more for a good condition 788 in .222Rem, most people probably wouldn't
 
I don't feel bad about spending what I did on the rifle. I've never had a rifle that would give me five shot groups you could cover with a dime with little work on loads. No regrets at all.
