Using your CCW

I also think in my state if I were to get robbed and the robbers were running away and I shot them, I'd be held liable for what happened to them

Yes. Most states require the target to not be in retreat. If they are retreating, then the risk to your life has passed, regardless of whether they have your money or not.

But, yeah. You should be careful when drawing your weapon. It's a good way to get your permit stripped. Atleast in Indiana.

back in early December '11, I was dumping trash before day light behind my shop. I was jumped by two large guys, who were telling me in graphic detail what they were going to do with regards to causing me harm.
The first one backed off, when he saw I was carrying a medium sized Wetterlings axe (which I was using to bust up the trash before I dumped it).
When I turned to confront the second guy, I was in the act of pulling my CZ 75D PCR 9mm. He saw the pistol, yelled "he has a GUN", and both of my assailants beat feet out of there.
All the excitement had already triggered a massive heart attack, but at least they did not beat me down, and leave me to die on the pavement in the dark.
I was able to call 911, and get help. I have no doubt that having my CZ was what kept me alive. Well, and it kept at least one of those guys alive too. :D

I'd recommend a great book by Massad Ayoob called "In the Gravest Extreme: The Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection." Ayoob has a ton of great advice in this book and it's a must read for anyone wanting to carry a firearm.

The only time I really thought I was going to have to draw was when I was driving to a Walgreens to pick up some things.....I was driving through a relatively nice neighborhood, but the car in front of me stopped right in the middle of the street, a guy jumped out of the driver's side, walked around to the back of his car...stopped and looked at me for a second...there was no way I could get around him because of the narrow street. He started at me for a few more seconds (which seemed like an eternity to me, but then got back into the car and drove off. I had no idea what his intentions were and to this day, I can't figure out why he did that. My heart probably jumped from about 70 beats per minute to at least 150 during this time.

This is another reason it's important to win and win fast. If you win, you can get medical help for those who need it, possibly including yourself. If you lose, you can bet your attackers won't do it.

Luckily I've never had to pull my weapon but have had to come close.

Background info: 34yo disabled veteran, dislocated both knees and 8 knee surgeries since. Have to use a cane now.

July 2011, me and my daughters were out geocaching and since I have to use a cane, I had my Walther PPS 9mm on me. We were out looking for a geocache for about 30 minutes when I noticed that a vagrant looking man had walked up. Individual looked like he was on drugs and was probably about a foot taller than me (I'm only 5'5"). Well I grab the girls and get them behind me and we start walking towards the car. The individual started walking towards us between us and the car. He started offering my daughters candy and I kept telling him to stop. Well after a few times of telling him to stop, he started walking straight towards me. I told the girls to get back to the car where my wife was since I now had the guys attention. He got about 7 yards from me and that's when I took a shooters stance and put my hand on my pistol, which was being carried in the small of my back.

It's amazing how quick a person will stop, after telling them three times before, once they see this simple stand and fight stance. Luckily, I didn't have to pull it and we continued on our way geocaching.

I have been involved in two ccw shootings. Both were armed
robbery attempts that resulted in the bad guy getting shot.
That's about all I would like to say about it in an open forum.
