using .45 pistol bullets in .45/70 rifle

I would not do weird things with an original Trapdoor or other 19th century original, but odd bullets are not going to HURT a modern gun of good materials.
I don't think .45 pistol bullets in a .45 rifle are going to work very well, but you might get lucky like SP or Ken Waters. Mr Waters had a Greifelt express rifle with tight bores that actually regulated with 250 gr Hornadys at 80 yards.

a fellow using .45 pistol dies to neck down .45/70 brass..." Is very confused. Sounds like the guy thinks .45 calibre is .45 calibre the way some think 7.62mm is always .308"

What don't YOU understand about necking down brass from .458 to .452? You must be very confused to not understand the concept.
