used handguns

Where did all these broken guns come from?
They were new guns that had problems.

Why did you leave Taurus/Charter out of you list of used guns?

Right... and that is true of any manufacturer. There are broken guns in the market place but even the worst manufacturer with the worst reliability rating like say, Taurus cough cough, will not have a defect rating of more than 5%. So again the vast majority of guns new and used will run. There are just as many out of the box failures as there are in the used market.

Again as I stated before people are working on a false premises. On top of that they are using circular reasoning to prove your false point. You assume that all used guns are broken. Sorry but all poodles are dogs not all dogs are poodles.

You believe your conclusion to be correct so you are only using or accepting premises which support it. When you have been shown the opposite to be true. Buy a Taurus if you want to it is your money others will buy what they prefer.

I personally leave them off the list because they are not a strong value. The 85 is a decent gun as is the Taurus 92 but used S&Ws and Berettas are only a few $$$ more.

PS have you ever had to deal with the Taurus customer service department? Their motto is we get it right because we do it twice.... LOL

In my particular experience, it was more like "If it's broke, we'll fix it till it's more broke." :D

And I'm not bashing the guns themselves. I had a very nice Taurus 66 that I regret selling to this day, and I currently own a sweet Taurus 431. But as always, there are turds out there so watch out.

When I was in the gun-biz (early 90s) , I had so many issues with brand new Taurus revolvers that I wouldn't even stock them anymore. I would order them for someone who REALLY wanted one , with the explaination and their acknowledgment that if something is wrong with it , it's THEIR problem. YOU handle sending it back under warranty.
Also , I would not take them in trade or buy used ones from owners.

I'd take a Rossi , Charter , or police trade-in S&W anyday over a Taurus.

If I only bought new I wouldn't own 1/2 the nice Colts I have or any of my S&W revolvers . Because I bought used I have a nice collection

I have never paid over $400 for a good S&W revolver most of mine are the older pin barrel kind in the low $300 range My Colt Defender used was $500 I think lived in a drawer Have 2 officers models same way $500 charter arms:eek: I bought a LNIB old 44 spl bulldog for $250. No I always look at the used pistols To many good deals to be found

Lots of good buys if you shop a little .

Over the last 30 odd years I've onwed close to 100 handguns. 98% of them bought used. I have had problems not worth fixing with 2 of them (and the could have been economically fixed, it just wasn't worth my time). I sold them to someone who was aware of the trouble, and will to fix them.

As regards used handguns haveing problems, yes, some of them do. Most don't. If a used gun is obviously broken, why buy it?

If you are stupid enough to buy sight unseen, don't whine. If you don't know how to do a decent examination to check for damage, LEARN! Otherwise, spend your money, take your chances, and shut up about your lack of expertise, as if its our fault.

I don't buy Charter Arms, nor Taurus, because they don't offer me anything I want. If they do for you, fine.

As to a first handgun, I have always felt it ought to be a .22, so one can afford the ammo to learn the basics of pistol shooting. Sell or trade it later, if you need to.

If you are in such a situation that you will only be getting one gun, then get a quality gun. Scrimping to save a few dollars could well be false economy.

The OP was very odd to me, where did you come up with those prices? The used S&W guns I bought over the last two years, 4506, 5906, 4006TSW, were all less than $400, and the 4586 was less than $300. The Beretta 92FS with a half dozen mags was $410. The Beretta 84BB was $289. The Dan Wesson 15-2 was $325. I've been looking at S&W 28's, most of them are $500 or less for a decent enough one.

It's hard to find ANY handgun I'm interested in that is over $500, and that's rare, most are less than $400.

I'll tell you what. You keep on thinking that, and I won't have to worry about you shoving me out of the way at the used gun counter.

I have enough competition as it is.
