Use of deadly force by police?

I want to know what you guys think of police using deadly and when is it nesicary? Also what kind of weapons should they carry?
My personal opinion is giving them a 9mm handgun is like going Grizzly hunting with a .22. Anything your going to shoot at is going to have more protection than you and 9mm is just going to piss them off. Personally .50 AE Desert Eagle is a good choice but M4's and MP5s are the way to go. And as for deadly force=you run, they shoot because anytime anyone runs its because theyre guilty of something even if it isnt what the po po are after you for. Im far from a law abiding citizen, I have run from police after getting caught skating somewhere illegal or egging somebodies house on halloween and i have expected to hear gunshots(i wouldve dropped to the ground). As for the weapon restrictions, useless, anyone who wants a gun to commit a crime will get it so the only real way to have a good chance of stopping the bg is even the odds, assualt rifles and submachine guns all the way for police.

Police are bound by whatever state they work in, as far application of deadly force statues that apply.

As far as what types of weapons they are issued or can use, normally detemined by policy set buy agency one works for.

12-34hom.

I would like to be chased by the police carrying a desert eagle. Maybe two of them. Plus they each should have to carry a door battering ram over their shoulder.:D :D

Now there's a bill being introduced [ again] that would force police to shoot in a less lethal way [ arms , legs etc ]. It never ends !

The federal case that set the standard for the use of lethal force is
TENNESSEE v. GARNER.

Anything your going to shoot at is going to have more protection than you and 9mm is just going to piss them off.

I'm going to recommend you do a little more research on these two issues, and in the mean time try to avoid those harmless nine millimeters.

;)

That'll work until someone gets killed because an officer couldn't stop someone with lethal force. When will the politicians stay out of things they know nothing about?

The same thing I think about anyone using deadly force when it's necessary. And they should carry whatever they can be most accurate with.

But the MP5 is 9mm

I think what the cops got now are just fine
9mm +p
40s&w
357sig

And they have the benefit of using "leet" ammo.

You stating the obvious, cops already got cooler guns than the bgs. :D

well as for planning my own funeral i can say this i would definatly reconsider running if they were aloud to shoot under their own circumstances.
What does that mean? You believe that LEO can just shoot you because they want too? That's hardly fair. Every departmental policy I know states that an officer can use deadly force only to protect their or someone elses life when threatened by deadly force. I know of several instances that a LE officer could have been justified in using deadly force but didn't because he was able to diffuse the situation.

Please folks, read the post and consider the I.Q. of the poster. The spelling ,and grammar IE: "Po Po", clearly point to an individual that cannot understand more than a single- dimensional debate.probably a teen or early 20's person...If not, then they clearly have limited understanding of the role of the Police. IMHO. Not to imply that teens or 20- somethings are not capable of intelligent debate, but if the "shoe fits"...

Where can I . . . . . . .

. . . buy bean-bag rounds in .45cal.??

But seriously, folks, the initial thread should warn you that the first and most prudent thing to do is to seek cover and stay small. Don't argue with guys who kant spel and have weepnz.

As far as deadly force is concerned, I remember the COPS episode where 2 LEOs stopped a pickup with 2 occupants at night, and the right-side officer approached the truck. He quickly determined that the pssngr had on armor. He hollered "ARMOR HERE!" and drew his pistol. I don't know why fer sure. At this point the driver exited and took off across the road like a B.O.O.H. eluding the other LEO. I guess Driver felt that being in the truck with a pal wearing armor was a crime. I don't know what State it was. Anyway, the LEO on Driver's side turned towards the runner unleashed a spray of about a dozen 9mm at his backside. All missed. But my question: If the fleeing man had been hit and brought down by shots to the back, is there a crime there? Justify your response, please.

Re:shooting a fleeing felon

Where i was employed, shooting at a fleeing felon was justified if you thought that the person in question could/would do harm to
the "community at large" if not stopped.

It was a seriously debateted theme at the time due to the criminal, and civil liabilities involved.

The statute still stands as far as I know, but prudence has governed those who live under it to date.

Just thought I would try to help clear the waters here.

Yeah, TN vs Garner pretty much handled this as pointed out. if you think the BG is going to commit violent crimes immediately after escaping, you can justify shooting a fleeing felon. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how often I would assess that to be the case, so I'd have to drag my butt along after the BG

I think that when one runs from police he should be shot if he will not halt. I know this is not a position that could be implemented, but that is what I think.

I also think that if a person calls a police officer names, such as pig, he should be arrested, fined, and if he takes a beating in the process that is OK.

Jerry - With an attitude like that, I sincerely hope that you are not a law enforcement officer.

Beating someone for calling you a name?
Shooting anyone who runs away from you?
:barf:
