USAF

74-77. After tech school at Keesler in Biloxi, I did 2 yrs at Bitburg, GmbH (36th AMS).
Wrapped it up at Holloman (49th AMS).
Worked on ECM systems.
Did I ever tell you the story about rigging up the AN/ALQ119 jammer on an F4C to douche the cop radar off the base at Alamogordo?
Yep, the pilot paid me well for that one.

Hehehe..

Best Regards,
Don

I am thankful for the time I spent in the service, what it taught me, and the experience it gave me. Our young people today need the dicipline and experience that the military can give.

Security Police 1965-68; 9th SRW (SR-71) Beale AFB; Ubon Thailand (8 TFW, F-4s, Wing Cdr Col. Robin Olds; Malmstrom AFB, Minutemen and F-101s. Some parts great, some so-so, some bad. Early out in 68 and got on with my life. Still remember Security Police pistol training with M15 S&W. Used Jeff Cooper's techniques, outshot everyone, got my butt chewed for not doing it by the book. Proved my point, though.

Heck yeah, Gunny. Three years in Alaska gets you a pair of ground wings!

PBSlugg, 303XX = Ground Radar Maint?

Robert, Robin Olds .. let's see that rings a faint bell. Only jokin'. My Wing Commander at Clark AB, RP, in '68, was Col. Chuck Yeager. I was too young to appreciate it at the time. I did get to meet him though. That was the 405th TFW, 8th and 13th Tac Bomb Sqdns (remnants of Bien Hoa rocket attack disaster.) Malmstrom in '64 and '65 as rugrat. Remember hearing KC-97's brakes screech at all times of the night. You could hear it for miles.

Ever get up to Glacier Nat'l Park to the Malmstrom Rec Area? The old man that ran it would let you target practice. Can you imagine that?

This thread seems like a good place for this. An oldie but goodie.

Airman Jones was assigned to the induction center, where he was to advise new recruits about their government benefits, especially their GI insurance.

It wasn't long before Captain Smith noticed that Airman Jones had almost a 100% record for insurance sales, which had never happened before. Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the room and listened to Jones's sales pitch.

Jones explained the basics of the GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said. "If you have GI Insurance and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you don't have GI insurance, and you go into battle and get killed, the government has to pay only a maximum of $6000."

"Now," he concluded," which bunch do you think they are going to send into battle first?"

Sensop: That's correct, sir. Didn't think anyone would recognize an obsolete AFSC. Ended up on Monkey Mountain having that skill!
BTW, how many oldtimers remember their old USAF serial numbers; not SSAN? ;)...PB

Remember your AFSN? Hell, when they lay me on the slab, the mortician's assistant is gonna say to the boss: "Hay, this stiff's lips are moving!" And when they bend an ear, they're gonna hear: "AF1134xxxx, Sir!" as I report in at Perly Gayts AFS...

Hey Sport, RAThomas,

I remember being on 12-on/12-off alert on C-diamond (F-4Cs) at Osan AB and watching Bucher and crew walk to freedom across the bridge at Panmujon on AFKN in '69 ('70?).

Were you there?

Sensop,

No, not at that time.

Vivid memories of flying into Osan
the first time.

Do you remember Bruce Dortin? He was
kind of like the "Adrian Kronauer" of
Korea. Bruce WAS AFKN radio for along
time. The brass liked him because he
kept all the rowdy troops calm with
his radio show.

I used to cover the Panmunjom talks for
the tv network. Somehow, the film we shot
of the fistfights between the ROK security
and North Korean security forces never
made it on air.
It came as no surprise a few years later
when some Americans were killed at the
peace village. The tension was palpable.

AF brat - I was born at Barksdale/Second SAC & ended up going to jr/sr high school back at the same place.

Did my own bit '75-79 as 811XX/812XX - Law Enforcement/Security Police. Did the patrol bit, ramp rat & desk sergeant. Also was on TNT (Tactical Nuetralization Team) which was anti-terrorist/hostage rescue - military SWAT-deal. Didn't join up till I was 23 & got much better treatment & perks than did a lot of the "wet behind the ears kids" as I was so "mature." :) Hey, it's me!

Also, got to be the the "resident terrorist," running exercises against our own troops - killed 'em all almost all the time. Too fun!

To all who have served - thanks to you all, my brothers.
