US War Crimes and Depleted Uranium

Rewind 60 years:

We can argue these points all day long, but here's the crux in my opinion. pres. roosevelt attacked TWO continents (Africa, Europe) that were not an imminent threat to us, no connection to Pearl Harbor and had no wmd, and If any of you still think he didn't know these things before he gave the "go" order, I think you're in denial. We killed thousands of innocent civilians, and HUNDREDS OF thousands of our own troops, which many of you on this board claim to support. We used bullets, artillery and bombs, which are the underlying cause of war deaths. We made our troops use unarmoured jeeps and under-armoured, under-powered, under-gunned tanks. … , and if you don't think that's gonna make you dead, think again. research it on your own. my point is that what you guys are arguing about is cosmetic, compared with the real problem, which is roosevelt committed war crimes the likes of which have not been seen in my 35 years on earth. I've read a lot of support the troops and patriotic sounding language on this board, but here you've got a president commiting crimes with our money, letting the communists and zionists dictate our policies to us while their spies run rampant all over our country, taking money right out of our pockets with his economic policies(btw, has anyone seen our currency exchange rate lately? enough to make your blood boil) and some of you still back him up. do you roosevelt supporters really love the u.s.a., or not? cause you don't act like it. just my opinion.

it's funny to be reading about the "evils" of DU on a board devoted to firing lead projectiles :-)

I was thinking that same thing. :) I'm glad we live in a country where we can freely discuss the virtues and dangers of both.

I also voted for him, because I like boots instead of flip-flops

That's an excellent image of what I think most of us here believe. I found an article of the same name by Tom Barrett, but I really think that concept goes far beyond just the Bush vs. Kerry. It really puts an image to what it means to be a citizen vs. a subject. Thanks!

I guess scc has left the building.

"pres. roosevelt attacked TWO continents (Africa, Europe) that were not an imminent threat to us, no connection to Pearl Harbor and had no wmd"

Say WHAT?

Roosevelt didn't attack two "continents," he sent troops to attack the German and Italian armies that were IN Euope and Africa, in nations that Germany and Italy had invaded under force of arms.

Some facts:

1. Germany and Italy declared war on the United States on December 9, 1941. The United States didn't declare war on them.

2. Within a few weeks, German and Italian submarines were conducting unrestricted warfare operations in American coastal waters, sinking quite a few American ships in the process. I suggest you Google "Operation Drumbeat."

3. German possessed large stocks of poison gas, including mustard, chlorine, and phosgene, the big three from World War I. In addition, Germany had developed and was putting into production Tabun and Sarin, the world's first nerve gasses. Germany produced over 12,500 tons of Tabun at a plant in Poland before it was overrun by the Soviets in 1944.

Germany also practiced chemical and biological warfare agent testing on Jews and prisoners of war with an eye towards development of weapons.

4. Germany had an active nuclear weapons research program.

Your claims don't hold true with historical fact.

"letting the communists and zionists dictate our policies to us..."

Ah. OK. Now I see.

It's just a great big CommieJew conspiracy.

Seig Heil?

Sorry guys. I was gone for a while.

I was trying to argue that you could use many of the same arguments from the original post against WW2 and probably any other war most of us would consider "right". I just replaced some words to try to show how weak I consider the arguments. I guess I did this weakly myself.

Most importantly -- many people argue that 9/11 was no excuse for attacking Iraq. After Pearl Harbor, we invaded Africa - which I've never heard anyone call a 'war crime'.

This maybe OT from the original post but I remember reading somewhere along time ago about the "dangers" of the watch hands that were made for the "glow in the dark" aspect that they were trying to push (40's, 50's or 60's?) and it proved to be a non-existant medical threat as well. I am sorry that I don't have any proof on the subject, just something that I remembered from long ago.

As for DU's being the cause of GWS, I'm thinking more along the lines of all the stuff that we blew up in GW1 when we did find the WMD's in Iraq.

There's still huge controversy in the medical and scientific communities on whether depleted uranium is the cause of Gulf War syndrom.

It's all the chemical weapons bunkers our soldiers blew up and then breathed the contents of during Gulf War I under Bush Senior.

this is sort of 45 degrees from the main point on this thread, but here's my .02.
We can argue these points all day long, but here's the crux in my opinion. pres. bush attacked a country that was not an imminent threat to us, no connection to 9/11 and had no wmd, and If any of you still think he didn't know these things before he gave the "go" order, I think you're in denial. We killed thousands of innocent iraqis , and thousands of our own troops, which many of you on this board claim to support. We used depleted uranium munitions, which is the underlying cause of gulf war syndrome whether the pentagon will admit it or not. when ignited, say, in a cruise missile or a tank shell, it burns hot enough to melt through steel, which is why we use it. it also emits radioactive dust fine enough to penetrate your standard gas mask. it has a half-life of 4.5 billion years, and if you don't think that's gonna make you sick, think again. research it on your own. my point is that what you guys are arguing about is cosmetic, compared with the real problem, which is bush committed war crimes the likes of which have not been seen in my 35 years on earth. I've read a lot of support the troops and patriotic sounding language on this board, but here you've got a president commiting crimes with our money, letting the israelis dictate our policies to us while their spies run rampant all over our country, taking money right out of our pockets with his economic policies(btw, has anyone seen our currency exchange rate lately? enough to make your blood boil) and some of you still back him up. do you bush supporters really love the u.s.a., or not? cause you don't act like it. just my opinion.

There are so many inaccuracies in this that it is not worth my time. You really nead to read a bit more.

Radium watch dials were certainly a medical threat to the ladies actually painting the watches, who licked their tiny brushes covered with radium-infused paint, in order to keep a nice fine tip on them. Radium necrosis, bone cancer (radium acts like calcium in the body), and anemia were common symptoms.

Personally, I'm always amused that some people think that "intelligence" (as in information gathering, espionage, etc.) is infallible and that governments know "everything there is to know" before embarking on some action.

In the Arabic countries, we have a notoriously difficult time getting accurate information. To say that someone "knew there weren't WMDs" in IRAQ is misleading at least, a bald face lie in general. Even if Saddam had merely re-created up to 10 "fat-boy" (Hiroshima) type bombs, there's a LOT of unused room in Iraq to hide them. Anyone remember that we found 3 MiG fighters buried in the desert, complete with fuel, spare parts and maintenance equipment? Hiding something the size of a Volkswagen in an area the size of California wouldn't be terribly difficult either.

Lastly, I'm always skeptical about someone's claims when they include key phrases that raise red-flags (or red herring) like...

the israelis dictate our policies to us
(Reminds me of "the Jews are responsible for our country's ills." in 1935)

[killed...] thousands of our own troopsDid I miss something? Have we lost more than 2,000 personnel? Last fall, as I recall, the number was closing in on 900. But I haven't been keeping count.

half-life of 4.5 billion years
Let's see, Plutonium has a half-life on the order of 1 billion years and last I talked to a neighbor who works at Lawrence-Livermore Nat'l labs, that was the longest lasting radiological hazard. Mebbe physics has changed recently.

The longer the half-life, the lower the radiation level.

One of these days during the summer I'm going to take a reading of the radiation level of my granite front porch.
