US Gun Laws - best State to live in?!

As a new zealander, I am often baffled by the differing laws between each states, and seemingly some countys. Some states dont allow "assault" rifles( yes, I know they are not really assault rifles), others do. Some allow carry of pistols, some dont. It seems that there are some where you can own shotguns, but not rifles. All a bit confusing!

Just out of curiosity, what state do you consider has the most "fire arm friendly" law?

I think Alaska and Vermont are the least restrictive, though there are many states that have decent gun laws.

Alaska and Vermont take the cake for the most part.

Other states have pretty good laws, like Florida, Texas, and New Hampshire are good states too.

Indiana, surprisingly enough, is a pretty good state. I have never had a problem getting or using whatever I want...

Pennsylvania is quite good:

1. PA is a "shall issue" CCW state.
2. There is a state preemption of firearms laws, so cities can't enact their own gun legislation.
3. No restrictions on the number of guns you can buy at one time.
4. No restrictions on 'assault weapons', high-capacity mags, etc.
5. All transferable NFA weapons are legal to possess in the state if you can get a signoff (and getting a CLEO signoff isn't too difficult in most of the state).

I live in MN, aka: Moscow on the Mississippi, liberalism has infected alot of people in this state. The liberals in office are in the making of a another AWB for MN. It drives me up the wall listening to left wing nuts! They tax the hell out of us up here and then provide police protection to men in the parks who want to walk arm in arm with nipple rings on. ITS SICK! They take OUR money and provide liberal indoctrination to our young people, who then come out of these so called colleges and take even more money and FREEDOM away. Liberalism is a cancer, and America has a tumor growing inside it and the left knows this very well.

Carbiner, check yourself. You have a problem with letting adults do something that doesn't harm you or anyone else in any way but which you find personally distasteful, and then you have the stones to gripe about losing freedom?

Pots. Kettles. You know.

I understand what you mean. What I stated was an example. Here's another: Gang shootings are up in Minneapolis, I would call that a behavior that harms my freedom as a law abiding gun owner. The gun grabbers are using this increase in gang violence to restrict my freedom. Our property values are dropping and we have another gay community center, another aids care housing facility plus HS BEHAVIOR is up in our city schools along with STDs. Oh did I mention we got hit with an 8% property tax increase, take a little more away from me. I forgot to mention a .5% city sales tax increase. Peoples behavior does harm and or affect other people. I don't know how old you are but I remember well when we had to start pay for the results male homosexual BEHAVIOR in America. My gun rights are stated in the the constitution. By the way I pay for it.

LIBERALISM IS A CANCER

Dude... whatever you're smoking, can you please either put it down or pass it over here?

WTF do gays have to do with gangs, or your RKBA? You're a foaming, ranting lunatic. You don't like gays, that's your opinion, but to accuse them of mounting some kind of attack on your rights is ludicrous in the extreme, and to ring in gang violence to support your twisted views is beyond idiotic.

I am 36 and I've been paying taxes for 20 years, BTW, but again, that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. As for you, *plonk*.

Tn. has pretty decent gun laws and ccw is must issue. But most citys in most states are very different from rural areas' if you want your freedom stay out of the subdivisions and suberbs.

Well, Ga isn't bad, either. Well, other than where you can carry concealed -- but other than that, it ain't bad at all. IIRC, the Brady Bunch gave us a D-, Woo Hoo! Best I remember, the only thing that kept us from a good, strong F was some restriction of some sort pertaining to minors.

I know of no state that prohibits ownership of rifles
As far as being confused, welcome to the crowd. The U.S. is a crazy quilt of firearms regulations. One of the reasons for this is that we have 50 different sets of civil and criminal law, rather like 50 semi-nations.

There are plenty of places in CA where you can carry.

You can't anywhere in MD or DC. There are plenty of states worse than CA.

Hmmm...I am sure I read that somewhere, but it may be for hunting only? you may not be allowed to hunt with rifles in some states? Does that sound right?

So what is a "must issue" for a permit to carry?

So, does that mean if you live in a state that allows you to carry, if you cross the border with your pistol you could be charged? What if you are going from one state to another which allows carry, and have to cross a state that wont let you?

(Just so you know, I work for the JAG equivalent in NZ, and am curious as to legal things. I guess also the sheeple, er, people of here, having been spoon fed hollywood and Moores nonsense is of the view anyone can buy any weapon at any time- which obvioulsy couldnt be further from the truth)
