US GI 45 ACP 1911 style magazine

armsmaster270: Thanks for your input. The stick on white label on the sealed poly kraft packages that I purchased reads:

1005-00-694-8644
Cage 1M291
MFR P/N 550 8694
Magazine Cartridge 1 Ea.
DAAE18-91-E03745
A/B
10/91

I wonder if what you experienced could be the reason that so many have turned up on the surplus market? Maybe USGI rejects??

Thats different mine are nsn 1005-00-550-8694 p/n 5508694
yours nsn 1005-00-694-8644 p/n 5508694

yours are a later date than mine and mine were ordered just prior to the phase out You might have an improved or corrected mag. I got rid of my micro fiche so I can't research it. Try them out if they jam you know how to fix.

Don't know how authentic the mags are you have in question, but I can tell you from first hand experience that real GI issue mags are pretty good. I used a lot (.45ACP) in the Army. And when I got out (Army) I used GI mags to feed a Remington Rand I had for civilian use. Having said that, I use Mec-Gar in my Colt 1911. I think Mec-Gar or Wilson are definitely better than even good GI Issue.

Here are magazine disassembly instructions from M1911.org

If you want to disassemble an M-1911 magazine, insert three or four rounds in the magazine. Then insert a pin (possibly the hammer strut) thru one of the magazine hole's, below the follower, in order to keep the mag spring down. Remove the rounds from the magazine and turn the mag upside down and shake it until the follower falls off. Remove the pin that holds the spring in and remove it.

That's one way I just push it down with a cleaning rod section instead of using ammo. But when your working on a bunch, ammo takes a lot of time.

Still around a year later - must still be a big load out 'em out there to enjoy.

The folks at 'AMMOMAN' still have them available and I see others do as well. In spite of it being a year since this thread died-off - they are BORN AGAIN!

Certainly designed for 'ball ammo' and apt to work in any 'Mil Spec' 1911 full size. Seven rounds is fine by me!

While some might consider them good for only range use, I am comfortable believing that should circumstance dictate, they will launch a 230gr round as well as any, even the 'higher priced spread'. Yes?

I sure hope so, because one of my boat-load of grandsons bought Gramps TWENTY of them with bucks from his firt real job. Smart kid -- quantity caught his eye and took a load off his Christmas budget!!:D

Until next year - MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND EVERYONE STAY SAFE! :)

Bumping this thread is not done out of malice. I read the warning, but since it was so applicable to the gift from my Grandson, and the fact that they are still available, I felt it would OK to pump a bit of new life into the suddenly halted discussion. If I have perhaps made an error in doing so, again please know this old coot did it with good intentions. ;)

I now this is an old thread. by the looks of the magazine base plate, yes it's got authentic looking stuff on it, except for one thing, it looks too good.
the stamping is perfect. a GI mag pre 1980's would have un-even stampings.
CDNN has a bunch in stock right now for $9
