United Nations ‘Army’ Proposed

Crisis management experts are calling for the creation of a "United Nations army” – an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe.
Sorry UN, every branch of OUR armed forces has a specialist branch that can already do that, and in less than 48 hours. (Seals, Rangers, Marines, etc.) Plus we're better at it. And we all speaka the same language. And we look really cool doing it.

I would be quite amused to watch a battalion of troops from Luxembourg or Botswana told that they have to go pacify a rioting Los Angeles. How many are going to develop belly aches?

As I said in a previous thread, any 3rd world troops hitting the shores of the USA take to the tall timber and open restaurants. Before they land, they would probably e-mail their uncle in Philly or Minneapolis for a place to stay.

Of course, a 1000 troops from Surinam might drive across I-10 to Rock Spring, Texas to take away our guns. Hope they stop over night in Van Horn - quite the garden spot.

LOL....

It's that whole dismissive attitude that negates credibility. See, our troops will go in under UN control to do whatever in some foreign nation, but another nation's troops would all go AWOL rather than do anything to the precious US. They are all incompetent? Cowardly? They all love us so much? They all have such respect for us? Our nation...?

Of course not.

What would happen is that troops under a UN flag would do like troops under any UN command: Exactly what they are told, where ever they are told to do it. The variable is not the troops, it's the quality of the command structure. Establish that and a UN armed force is as viable as any other.

Yep, I'm really worried about the UN army doing what they are told in their invasion of the US.

Like I said, the boys from Botswana, Sri Lanka or Sweden will enjoy the drive from LA or NJ to Texas.

I'll send them the Cracker Barrel road map. They can have Momma's Pancake Breakfast!!

The UN invasion of the US is a fantasy that makes the gun world look like looney tunes. I'm more scared of a president that refuses to control the border and says he would sign the AWB than the 4th Imperial Dragons of the Congo Republic.

And I am frankly most afraid of people who insist something can't happen when they really don't have the slightest clue one way or the other. Meanwhile, the AWB comment is very revealing regarding what you actually know about how politics works. Whatever...

having UN troops come into your embattled 3rd World Country is like a the Security Council delivering a sentence of death for thousands of your people. Timor, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Congo..........the list goes on and on. That is not to say I am forgetting Rawanda, nope, thats whole other issue of UN incompetance.

The wonder excuse of the AWB.

The AWB was antithetical to any one who believed in the RKBA.
George Bush said he would sign it.

Thus he pledged to be antithetical to a basic human right that supposedly we are committed to.

However, the pathetic rationale of the mindless followers of this failed leader is that he could pander to the soccer mom as he knew he wouldn't have to sign it.

Thus, that makes it morally acceptable to lie about his beliefs.

Let's say he wasn't lying about his support of the AWB. Then, if he thought it did save lives (which it doesn't), then by not fully supporting, he cost lives. That is morally bankrupt as he tried to straddle the fence.

I'm flat out disgusted with folks who accept lying and deception on a basic human right by a man who parades his religious morality and respect for life.

He dashed across the country to 'save' a brain dead woman and surfaces gay marriage to flush some support from social conservatives.

I understand politics and cognitive dissonance quite well. You can stew about the UN Army and support a president who lies to you about the RKBA. I don't think real politique supports lying about the BOR. If you do, you don't understand America.

*yawn*

What ignorance cloaked in undeserved pomposity.

YOU brought up the AWB. It is YOUR wonder excuse, apparently.

The AWB is not automatically antithetical to anyone who believes in the RKBA. That is YOUR world view(and mine). Try not to mistake your opinion as reflecting the views of everyone.

Bush said he would sign it because that IS how politics works. Had he said he would not the left would have pounced and we would, probably, have Al Gore as POTUS. That is reality, despite your denials and misunderstanding.

Whether this is morally acceptable or not is not at issue here. What Shrub even believes is not at issue here. It's whether or not it worked, and it did.

We have no idea whether Shrub liked or disliked the AWB, we know it was a political tool. It was used to achieve a goal. It worked. He paid off with it. Attempting to assign a moral center to the actions of a politico pursuing national office is proof you do not get how politics works.

So you are disgusted? First, who cares? Second, who do you think "approves" or "accepts" this fantasy morality issue of yours? This was pure practicality on the part of Shrub and accepting HIM, with or without this "morality" is purely a practical matter. There was no better option. Your pomposity either fails to acknowledge this and is thus irrelevent, or refuses to admit it at which point we'll have to enter into a discussion of the moral center of someone else, won't we?

Subjects with no merit to the discussion. Consider them ignored, except as evidence of what your real issue is here...

I understand the United States quite well, including it's ongoing dissolution and the people who are helping to drive it forward. I also understand the lessons of history, the practical aspects of keeping on with keeping on AND the fact some people have their heads buried in the sand and no desire to look at anything but their agenda. With that I'll continue to consider possibilities and you can continue to cry for a moral center that no longer exists in politics. We'll probably both eventually be dissapointed but at least I'll see it coming...
