Uniflow metering screw

Now for the bigger surprise. These new Quick Change versions do not fit the Mic Screws you can buy for the regular Uniflows.

Why? New caliber-change thinking......rather than keep mic settings in a book for different calibers and/or bullets, they think we will prefer to just buy a Quick Change metering screw for each caliber.....then to change calibers you only have to change the metering screw. Very fast indeed....especially if you only use one load per caliber. At $10 to $15 a piece that's reasonable.......unless you want 3 bullet/loads per caliber.....then it gets a little pricey. For many it will be a neat convenient way to go though.

BTW, nothing says you can't have a regular Uniflow with a case-activated linkage, and a mic metering screw.....TOO!:D

Higgite, Thanks for the reply. I have a large cylinder and have never reloaded anything but pistol. I weigh every 5-6 charges and it is pretty accurate. Ordered a small cylinder tonight.

DaggerBlade: The consistency of the powder throws between the small and large assemblies are probably pretty close to the same.

Where you'll get an advantage by using the small assembly is that it requires more turning of the screw to move the charge up or down by a given amount. i.e. you have more accuracy in adjustability with the small assembly. And that's a nice advantage - especially when creating light (handgun) loads where small changes in powder drops can make a significant difference.

You're welcome.

Upgrading a Uniflow? Quick Change upgrade parts pictured below, top to bottom, clockwise: drop tube adaptor $4, Q.C. cylinder $29, Q.C. small metering screw $15, Q.C. large metering screw $10, and powder dump $9. Total $67. Prices from Midway USA, not counting rebates or shipping. You'll have to call RCBS direct to see about buying the new oversized hoppers though....or just use the one that came with the original.

Sorry Gentlemen, but the RCBS Quick Change post I posted above has some wrong information! RCBS sent out pictures and information that conflicted and confused....me at least.

I'd really like to correct the post, but it can't be edited now, so here is the correct information:

The new Quick Change Uniflows for sale at Midway USA come in the 1 lb hoppered version, and in the High Capacity 2lb hoppered version.

The 1lb-hoppered Quick Change comes with the Pro Chucker 7.

The Pro Chucker 5 has a disappointing hybrid Quick Change not otherwise sold (that I can find). Quick Change yes, but it only has the old Uniflow small hopper! :(

Also a real head scratcher is that the giant 2lb hopper appears in Midway's catalog picture to come with the Pro Chucker 7 Die Plate!!!! Yet in RCBS's 2015 catalog it shows the 1 lb hopper with the die plate.

Clear now, as mud!
