Uneasy about carrying one in the pipe?

I have a DA/SA P99. I have practiced carrying it loaded, decocked- with that exceptionally LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng trigger pull you Sig and Glock fans remind me about I do not even consider it a propblem anymore. I would not carry it cocked though even if the trigger were up front (P99 has trigger modes). It is imported through the PRofMA so I am sure that it has been drop tested off the Empire State Building, but I do not want to run the risk of plugging the lady in front of me in the popcorn line in the butt with an A/D.

There is no reason to carry a modern pistol with an empty chamber. None of the guns mentioned so far will go BANG unless the trigger is pulled. Period. Get a holster that covers the triggerguard and forget about it. Don't put your finger inside the triggerguard unless you are about to fire. Remember that a lot of this fiddling around and racking requires practice and muscle memory, which may evaporate under the extreme stress of defending yourself. I carry Glocks for just that reason - I just draw, index, and press the trigger and it goes bang. No safety, no decock, no BS.

Here's an experiment. Fall on the ground and break your dominant wrist, ribs and sprain your ankle.

Then imagine that you have done this in some conflict and need to get your gun. Is it chambered or not?

Now, have your dominant wrist in cast for six weeks. While you are a decent shot with the other hand and have taken two course that covered one handed reloads and racking, do you really want to be doing this?

If I was troubled by the idea of a chambered round, I would switch my bigger carry gun to a SW 686 + with seven rounds. If that doesn't get me through the moment, well - that's life.

As I expected, there is a good share of chest pounding and bravado here.
"I ALWAYS carry chambered... locked cocked and ready to rock"
And the one comment I was just waiting to see who said it: Not carrying a chambered round may get you killed...

As I said before... Not every one is at the same level of experience. Some shooters here our novices. If you are a relatively new shooter and are uneasy with condition 1 carry... Then Dont Carry Condition One.
You Dont Have To. There is no Stigma involved - to feel some sort of peer pressure regarding this is foolish and to carry condition 1 before your are mentally prepaired and ready is even more foolish.
Doing so could invite disaster. If your boarder line on the matter, be comforted by the fact that modern pistol do not fire by them selves and if you follow the 4 Golden Rules of firearms... you will be safe.
The biggest rule on carrying Condition 1 is this: Keep your Finger Off the Trigger!

Admittedly, with this new Detonics, I carry like Corria started. Locked and Cocked but not chambered. Why? This Detonics doesnt have the Grip safety. Thats One Less piece of insurance. Untill I am FULLY confident in this guns safety - it will remain unchambered.

Should a fight break out - I'll jus thave to use my mind first, and gun second... taking some cover before the draw and rack if I can.
I do not feel disadvantaged in the slightest.

It didn't take long for this worthwhile topic to exceed the 100 K mark. Anyone is welcome to start part 2...
