Underwood's New 380 "+p" Gold Dot Ammo Review/Test

There are some pretty small 9mm guns out there that are making that argument less persuasive than it used to be.

Yes the 9 mm's are getting smaller,,,
But in my small experience,,,
They kill at both ends.

They go something like,,,
Bang-ouch!,,,Bang-ouch! Bang-ouch!,,,Bang-ouch!,,,Bang-ouch! ;)

Do you own and Federal or Winchester ammo?
?

If my assumption is correct about your miss worded question the answer is yes. In addition to Federal and Winchester, Speer, Remington, and others. Just non from a company that uses +P as a marketing tool.
Winchester PDX1 180 gr. 40S&W for my Springer XD40 Subcompact
Speer Gold Dot 9MM +p Short Barrel for my KAHR CM9. (A legitimate +P round for a gun made for +P ammo)
Federal Premium Personal Defense Handgun in 410 000 buck for my Judge PD Poly, 1st two up followed by Winchester 45 Colt PDX1 225 gr.
I just happen to believe that the Critical Defense round is in my opinion the best choice for my Elsie Pea.

Correct, I meant "any"

I would not buy ammo from any company that blatantly uses false advertising such as putting the +P moniker on a caliber that has no such SAAMI standard

Federal +p+ 9mm link
Winchester +p+ link

I really am not trying to turn this into an argument, I swear. But, the point of my question was that many companies produce ammo that has no SAAMI standard; even very reputable ones like Federal and Winchester.

To my knowledge, Winchester and Feederal do not advertise any ammunition beyond the SAAMI +P spec as +P.

Yes, they produce ammunition that has no accepted SAAMI standard, but they do not refer to it as +P, confusing the issue. If it is beyond a SAAMI spec, they refer to it as +P+.

Cheapshooter is saying he will not buy from a manufacturer that exceeds a SAAMI spec and sells it as +P, confusing the consumer as to whether it meets a SAAMI spec. Winchester and Federal do not do that. Obviously, Underwood is.

Makes me wonder - with rounds that have a "+P" SAAMI spec, using "+P+" on the packaging makes it clear that you've gone above and beyond the maximum SAAMI specifications. What would be a good equivalent nomenclature for a caliber where there's no "+P" specification? .380 ACP+?

Ah... I read it differently. Thanks for the clarification.

One round isn't going to blow up an LCP or P3AT.

Probably not, but why risk it?

I have been carrying the LCP for that time frame, and whle I am under-gunned, I am not un-armed.

I am looking at the Underwood rounds, and will likely be placing an order within the next week or so...

When the manufacturer specifically puts in the manual a statement to not use a certain type of ammo, isn't that worth paying attention to?

Very well said, thank you. Yes, it's the companies that seem to want to base their business on using the +P rating for over pressure ammo that I have a problem with. They seem to be telling the customer that with their "super" ammo they will make a tank killer out of a staple gun!
