Ok which one of these types of pistols, chambered in the classic .45ACP cartridge, is your pick and why?

My pick was for the 1911 because it looks prettier, shoots accurately. Plus something about the feel of metal in my hands, and that 30LPI checkering and the exotic wood grips, its like riding a Harley for the first time...:D

Although I am a Glock fan, I chose a 1911 for the launch platform of the 45ACP. My reason? Because although a double stack 9x19mm or 40S&W feels right to me, a double stack 45ACP is just too fat.

Is this really "ultimate?"

Why not include other brands, and why not subtypes? I might even give a different opinion based on snubby 1911 barrels as opposed to long-slides... then there is what you want to use the gun for; competition, open battle, concealed carry, and on and on and on...

I own a Glock 30, HK USP Tactical, and a Wilson Combat Millenium. I shoot the Wilson better than the other two, and it's the most comfortable for me to carry. So I voted for the 1911.

Greeting's All,

While all the choice's were good, I voted
for my much beloved Sig-Sauer P220.:):D

None of the above (I didn't vote). Although I like the Glock and Sig, neither would be my first choice. Had there been an "other" option, I would have voted for that.

CZ -

Originally I was going to add the CZ on the poll, thinking about adding one to my collection as a matter of fact. But I wanted to keep it down the the "top four" and based it on the popularity of the handguns mentioned.

Should've added an "Other" option but oh well, I screwed up:rolleyes:

I can't choose the "ultimate," I trust my life to both the 1911 and the Glock.

If I had to pick a .45 that's really "ultimate" I'd go with the Thompson.

The 1911 is classic. It is well designed and ergonomic (before the word even existed!)

Parts are easily available, and good pistolsmiths can improve the 1911 for several different uses.

Well, I wouldn't call it a screw up...I mean most people never even heard of CZ, so I completely understand why its not on the poll. ;) Don't worry about it, in fact I'll just go along with this poll and vote for my "second favorite"....which would be the Glock 21. It gets very good groups and is really fun to shoot. For the record, I also like the Sig 220...but I actually shoot the Glock better. I never have tried an HK, so I cannot comment there. The 1911's I've shot were mostly Colts, with one Springfield also mixed in. The Colts were sub par, and the Springfield very good. Still, I give the Glock the vote because for me it is the easiest in the poll to shoot very well.

I really like the 1911. The tradition & history, the inherent ergonomics, but I shoot my HK's better than anything else I've had a chance to shoot from stock Colts to a fully dressed STI 6" custom gun. That is why I voted HK on this one ;)

I don't see my personal pick up there -- Smith & Wesson Model 1917, Model of 1950, or Model of 1955.

Barring that, thought, my choice would likely be the Sig.

As much as I love my Glock 21s ( and I luv'em a LOT ), my vote for the ultimate .45 ACP would have to be a mildy customized/tuned 1911. What can I say, the gun has been getting the job done for the past 80 years or so and will continue to get the job done in the years to come.

I love the Glock 21 and the SIG 220 but the 1911 is a thing of beauty. I have 3 of them all from different eras. They are all classics.

Call me sentimental. I love my Glocks in .40 & 9mm and my P-32 but for .45 I would have to say the 1911. Something about it, the look, the feel, the history just screams "Yes, I'm an American. I like V-8 engines, red meat and cigars. When I shoot, I want big, fat bullets that knock you on your ass. I fought my way from the jungles of the Philippines to the beaches of Normandy to the jungles of Vietnam. I'm strong, loud and proud. I'm an American and this 1911 is my .45".

Gentlemen, The 1911's have spoken.
Love my G21, and My 1911, but if I had to choose...I'd keep the 1911 for all the reasons we already know.
Be honest you guys...The only reason you voted for any of the other pistols at all is because you own one and felt obligated too!!...:D
