UK Crime Figures Down - Are You Listening Jeff ?

Gee Mike, if the UK is such a crime free paradise why even consider for even one officer to carry a firearm?

Having spent years as a cop, I am QUITE familiar with the 'recategorization' of crimes. One of our local chiefs directed that a burglary is only a burglary if the perp gets in and takes something. It's just malicious injury to real property if you can't articulate that an item was taken. In my state, burglary is forcing entry with the intent to commit a crime (any crime) therein. HMMMMMmmmm. Lower crime rate.

As the UK is perhaps the last country on the planet whose police officers do not routinely need to carry firearms I assume your question comes from a vein of pure sarcasm. On a more serious note, we have our bad guys just like anywhere, I don't know of any country where there has never been an armed robbery or hostage situation, and you may recall that our officers resisted the call to carry weapons in the face of a terrorist uprising that would have had the LEO's (and citizens) of certain other nations shooting anyone with an Irish accent. If I portray the UK as a utopia (pardon me for a minute while I laugh) then is it is entirely unintentional, the purpose of this post is to attempt to remove the blinkers of people like Jeff Cooper who falsely use dubious UK crime statistics to further the pro-gun agenda, allbeit an agenda I happen to agree with.

But Mike, if the crime figures are down why consider having more police armed with firearms? If the stats are true wouldn't the opposite apply?

Let's try and put this mountain into molehill proportions.

These 6 (SIX) pistoleros were already firearms officers (there is nothing new or additional about them) but previously they could only patrol in vehicles and not on foot, but now these 6 and just these 6 in the whole country can walk the streets wearing a gun, that's the issue. But if you regard the provision of 6 firearms trained officers replacing 6 unarmed ones and then patrolling a drug blackspot as proof positive of a crime epidemic then I'm not going to stand in the way of the stampede.

If people keep trawling the news groups for UK police initiatives against crime they will find plenty to amuse themselves, but it really doesn't amount to a pile of beans.

Surely the time to bleat about the UK crime situation is when every one of our thousands of cops need to carry guns on foot patrol, not just 6 of them. Something that is unlikely to happen for some years to come.

Does anyone have any headache tablets I'm fresh out ?

I have some aspirin or ibuprofen, but no headache tablets.

Statistics can be massaged to match whatever ANYONE wants to say. The truth is that criminals will have guns whether they are illegal or not. Just making a law won't make lawbreakers change. The people that get hurt are the ones who obey the laws. They're the ones who turn in their guns like good little sheeple and have no way left to defend themselves. Wake up!
 
Clinton's own FBI says that the UK's official crime stats are a load of ca-ca. Nobody has any real idea what the crime rate in the UK is, except that it's MUCH higher than they will admit to.

That's the next step; Criminologists say that gun control doesn't work, so deny the criminologists the information they need to make any findings. Just like Clinton's Justice department is refusing to release figures for federal gun prosectutions under the FOIA, so that nobody can prove they're lying when they say they're up.

So, there are only 20,000 households in England? Thank God, I thought there were more people there, silly me. All those complaints about poor living conditions must NOT be true either then, right??
 
Mike, If the crime rate is down why do they now want these six officers to carry out in plain view? Once again it doesn't add up, even if it is only six. If crime is down as you boast, then the opposite should apply. Now go take some headache medicine before you try to explain the logic of this. :D
