Uh oh. They're multiplying. Quickly.

You have 4 guns and you think you might have an obsession?
I purchased more than that last December! But I don’t have an obsession, no. I can stop any time I want and just be happy with the number of guns that I own, stop anytimeeeeeeee.
I didn’t buy a cap and ball revolver this year even though the 12 that I have that were feeling left out.
But I did buy a couple of N frame Smiths just to make the others feel jealous.
But I don’t have an obesessessession! No!
Now leave me alone! Don’t ask such silly questions you don’t want the answer to.
I’m busy, don’t have time for your questions,,,,,, I’m cleaning my gun safe for the 3rd time this morning.;)

there is no cure once the bug has bitten....however...after the collection grows.....the impulse buying can be curtailed a bit....

"Terrible" disease to be infected by. There is no known cure, but relief is available with ongoing additions to the collection. Treatment is generally very, very enjoyable.

Ok, maybe I do have an obsession but a warning to everyone that has this affliction.
Told my wife I was going shooting this afternoon which she said “Have fun,,,,,, but when was the last time you took the gun I bought you for Christmas several years ago shooting?”
The look on my face got me in trouble, took me a couple of minutes to remember what it was.
Yes I’m old and forgetful but not that decrepit.
Ruger Blackhawk in 44 special.

Don't leave them alone

It is not an obsession. They multiply. Left two Rugers in my safe for a week and then when I opened the safe there were 7 of them.

Cure?
Running out of DISPOSABLE income.
The time comes when you want to shoot your collection.
Yep, fun times!
However, unless there is enough income to feed the "kids", you have
to choose between shooting them or acquiring more to not shoot.
Reloading becomes the next logical step...
and so the disease spreads.....

You want to really get snake bit and start an obsession. Go buy a Colt 1911. Doesn't matter what kind, just buy one and watch what happens.

It is a sickness...a sickness that makes you feel good. I also started with a Henry 22lr lever action, I have since accumulated quite a collection!

This is what I would consider ideal in terms of the number and types of guns your average American should own.

A .22 rifle
A .22 handgun
A scoped bolt action rifle in a caliber suitable for hunting medium to large game
A shotgun
A defensive/battle rifle (what ever type you prefer)
A defensive handgun

Keep in mind that's for EACH American. So that would allow for a total of 12 firearms between you and your wife.

After you reach that point and decide you want more, then you could say you have a problem... but at that point I would just say your becoming a collector! ;)

I have not planned to start a collection but there's another that I want and that's to complete my 40sw collection. I have a sig P250c and a Hi-Point 4095ts carbine both in 40sw. Now I have my eyes on the Charter Arms Pit Bull 40sw revolver.

I still have my Sigma 9mm that I meant to sell but hard to let go.

Yea, dont feel bad about 4, i hit 30 (that i currently own, if i count ones ive sold too.. more like 40 or 45) total yesterday. Either i need to sell some before i buy more... or get another safe.

Let's see, Will's math seems to go like this -

Mosin Nagant + Mosin Nagant + Mossberg 590 + Ruger GP100 + Mosin Nagant - Mosin Nagant - Mossberg 590 + Mossberg 590A1 + Colt 1911 + Sig Sauer P238 + Century RPK + AR15 + AR15 frankenbuild + Sig Tacops 1911 = far from over. Godspeed.

Shortly after we were married Auntie Buck wandered in to my room one day while I was cleaning my guns and looked in to the gun safe. She said it was nice and noticed it had room for a few more rifles.

Jump forward a year and same thing, except she remarked the safe looked like it had more guns. I tried to explain when you leave firearms in a dark place, they tend to multiply.

Three years in to our marriage, she bought me another gun safe. Said I really should separate the boy guns from the girl guns because I was quickly running out of room. I explained, or tried to explain, that guns were asexual and could reproduce when-ever they were kept in close to other guns. She said she could not understand how a Ruger and a Winchester could produce a Smith and Wesson.

Eight years later... Three gun safes and a few rifle cabinets later. There is no cure.

Third solution is work for a gun shop like I do. Then you end up not having enough money to buy anything that you sell.

I did that. I finally told the owner to just apply my salary directly to my tab. Talk about owing your soul to the company store! ;)

Build from a demilled parts kit; it'll slow you down long enough to let the wallet recover. Just remember to buy the kits as you finish them or you'll be deeper in the hole than before.
