Uh oh. They're multiplying. Quickly.

So, this gun obsession thing you all have. Is there any kind of cure? This time last year, there were zero guns in this house. Now there are four. :D It started with me buying my wife a Henry lever action .22, because we thought it would be fun to shoot targets. Yup, it was. (Gun count - 1) Then we decided to get our CC permits, and in February I got a Ruger LCR in .357 magnum. That's fun too. (Gun count - 2) Then, I realized my wife's birthday is just around the corner. Hmmm, what to get, what to get. I had a few ideas. Some cookbooks, some clothes maybe, a viewmaster disc with our wedding pictures on it (I did end up getting her that. A very cool gift idea if you're looking for something unique. Just search "Image3D.com".) All pretty decent ideas. But then, my LGS decided to have a Smith & Wesson sale. Well my wife's had her eye on the M&P Shield in 9mm for quite some time, so I took her there and bought her one. (Gun Count - 3) She was......pleased, to say the least. :) However, while we were there, I spotted another S&W that caught my eye, and with the sale going on, through no fault of my own, it followed me home. I picked up the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 AR style rifle. (Gun count - 4) So that's where it stands right now. However, I feel an emptiness that may need fulfilling in the near future, after the bank account recovers a bit.

I may need professional help. :p

There are only two solutions:

1. Go out and buy more if you can afford it.

2. Stay out of guns stores, stop reading gun magazines, stay off gun forums, and etc. You get the idea. :)

Ha ha.... Um no

No cure, I restarted in December last year and am already up to 3 with 3 more planned. At some point I am thinking that shooting cost will leave too little left to buy more guns, but that will cause further creativity later, like... Reloading. Someone should make a progression chart of their experience. Just so we have a guide to follow.

And to think, you haven't even dipped your toe in the waters that are high power rifles, or shotgun.

Wait until you join a gun club so you can get a CMP Garand rifle or a 5.56 AR for "service rifle" target shooting.

Or a nice over/under or pump for some pheasant hunting, trap, 5-stand and/or skeet shooting.

Third solution is work for a gun shop like I do. Then you end up not having enough money to buy anything that you sell.

The only sure I have found to keep guns from multiplying is to start reloading ;)

Once you start reloading, there is a whole extra realm of things to throw your money at all for that elusive one hole group.

The only cure I have found is to have a gun for every situation you can think of (Gun count - 66). You have a long way to go.

Death my friend.
This is the morbid truth.
The desire to own, shoot and fondle firearms has no cue other than death.
Once you start down the road of gun ownership, shooting and hunting it is all over.
Don't even think about collecting firearms because that is the deepest pit of all.
There is no turning back.
I buy empty safes and in short order they fill themselves.
Now I just bang nails in the walls to hang them from - no more room for safes.
It is very sad situation.
There is no salvation.
I believe in God and he is great but sadly he created and loved John Browning, Samuel Colt and others.
As I said; there is no salvation.:D

jay24bal has it right

Reloading does seem to be the cure...

I am not really looking at new stuff much anymore, and used stuff it really has to appeal to me..

Feeding what I have and searching for that perfect load is a quest within itself.

What I would have spent on guns, I spent on reloading equipment, supplies, components instead, and wondering if I can come up with a pet load for each one..

For a partial cure, see weblance, then jay24bal, then madmo44mags answer..

I was in the same boat as you. First I bought a hunting rifle, then a shotgun, then a few handguns. Next i built an AR, and now i am looking at either another handgun, or an AK or Garand. It's getting bad. :D

This right here, is where it is at for me. This may sound crazy to someone just embarking on the path to gun "collecting," but I get more excited to test new loads for a gun (new, used, heck even an old gun of mine that I want to try a new bullet or powder in), than I do unboxing a brand new gun.

I remember the excitement after I bought my first several guns of wanting to get them home, stripped and cleaned to head up to the range for test firing. Now, I am excited to make a dummy round and see what the COL should be for the first round of test loads.

Have 75 guns all nice guns just save some money and get a old gun I like haha feel that's the way to go lol I have a specific gun for everything from traping to plinking

Nope, sorry, definitely no cure. You will find out it slows down after a bit though. As your collection grows and you fill in some of your most wanted guns, the craving will be less intense and less often. Maybe somewhere around 20 guns. ;-) I found it to be kind of when I had covered all of my key calibers. One tip, pick carefully up front, and your first guns will still be your favorites.

No cure, since I retired and moved out of CA. Living on a fixed income, I'm only up to 16 and a bench full of reloading stuff. Yeah three different presses.

Only 4 in a whole year? You're not even running a fever.

Now, that is funny! Spacecoast is right, there have been a few years where I've averaged one a month consistently. Slowed down a little lately, mainly because I have most everything I've always wanted already.

If it's causing no financial hardship, why not?
