U.N. Sex for Food Scandal

I first learned of the accusation by reading the comic strip Mallard Fillmore. Its not surprising that we never heard too much on CNN or network news about UN workers forcing sex on starving girls in developing nations. I posted 3 links to the same general story in case one should fail.

So what does this have to do with RKBA? It lends more credence to the idea that the UN is an amoral self serving organization which tends to take on more power as the decades continue. It is only a matter of time before we will have a 'treaty' which gives it power to collect our guns, for the children of course.

The time to get out of the UN is now.

As much as I hate the UN, condeming them for the actions of their peace keepers is the same as the media condeming Bush for the prisoner "abuse" at Abu Gharib.

Food for oil is a indictment that you can hang your hat on, this is an example of blue helmeted chuckleheads who clearly need more supervision.

The UN already has a Code of Conduct and a zero tolerance policy, they have issued bulletins, developed training modules, and are even developing an action plan to analyze the problem. What more could anyone want from overworked international bureaucrats trying to run the world?

No wonder they're trying to divert attention to America all the time.

So Kofi, what does your sick little harem look like.

Whats next, blame America for it, Bolten cut funding to the UN, so now it's time to utilize kids for some extra cash.

That is sick.

old story

there was several report which found out that UN blue berets were responsible for spreading HIV/AIDS viruses among pre-adolescent children...offering them food in return for sex with minor children.

Another masterpiece brought to you by the geniuses at the UN. Let's give these people unlimited power to rule the world - great idea.:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

I'm with rhgunguy; unless the UN as a whole is supporting/tolerating these activities, then it's not fair to accuse the organization as a whole. There are plenty of reasons to dissolve the UN, without taking cheap shots.

rhgunguy nailed it.

Also, there are a few threads which speak in depth on the supposed capability of the UN to take American's guns. Enough with the doom & gloom... it is not going to happen.

It seems to me that there's a pattern of misconduct within the hierarchy of the organization:

1. Oil for food, where the higher-ups, and many of our so-called allies, were on the take.
2. Sex for food, where higher-ups must've been aware that these children were being raped. Lest we forget, Ruud Lubbers, the former UN high commissioner for refugees was a serial sex harasser who was forced to resign in disgrace. It's now obvious that his attitude has permeated that organization, except soldiers with guns and food have even more power over those starving little girls.
3. Stood idly by allowing the genocide of 1 million Tutsi in Rwanda.
4. Currently standing idly by while 400,000 non-Muslims are murdered in Sudan, refusing to declare this wholesale killing a genocide. Currently standing idly by while allowing those the janjaweed haven't murdered to be enslaved. In 2006.

In short, the UN is an amoral and corrupt organization which creates more problems than it solves. It's obvious that our continued presence in the organization is doing little to moderate this motley collection of bloodthirsty despots. "US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US."

As much as I hate the UN, condeming them for the actions of their peace keepers is the same as the media condeming Bush for the prisoner "abuse" at Abu Gharib.

That depends, how often does this sort of thing happen? I guarantee you if stuff like "Abu Gharib" happened more often than that heads would roll.(no pun intended) A few soldiers doing something genuinely f**ked up like this is a serious problem that requires strict discipline. A few separate incidents is more of a problem, and reflects poorly on the leadership of said nation/organization.

Twycross, unfair to UN

I think it's endemic to the whole organization and UN food+HIV/AIDS-for-pedophilia scandal (old news) is symptomatic of the deeper, internal organizational problem. I've heard of similar scandals when UN troops were based in other parts of the world. For example, I heard that because of very high rate of STDs among UN troops, they were given increased supply of condoms (apparently, it didn't prevent all those children being molested by UN troops from acquiring HIV/AIDS virus).

My understanding is that the problem with UN stems from its membership (most of the world are not run by democratically elected, stable, republican government that is fairly free of curruption), conflicting interest b/w different nation states that makes coordinated and sustained action difficult, and lack of accountability.

Can the same kind of thing afflict our armed services? Yes, but if it did happen, appropriate party will be duly punished, criminal investigation and prosecution will take place, heads will roll (higher level personnels replaced), and new kind of control placed to prevent similar thing from happening in the future.

But with U.N., when one hears of these matters, it's simply old news.

1. just before 9/11, there was a Cato Institute study which predicted that the probability of significant domestic terrorism within next couple of years as being fairly high. When I mentioned this to a colleague, I was told that it would be best to disregard it.

2. I believe in recent US Supreme Court cases, international laws were referred to.

3. I remember reading that the technique advocated by HCI is akin to boiling the lobster slowly from cold to simmering to boiling heat so slowly that the lobster doesn't know he's being cooked.

just to prove how common this is...

Excerpt:

Sexual misconduct has long characterized UN peacekeeping missions.

During the UN mission in Cambodia (UNTAC) from 1992 to 1993, the number of sex houses and “Thai-style” massage parlors multiplied and the number of prostitutes rose from 6,000 to 25,000, including an increased number of child prostitutes. Cambodia’s HIV rates rose and sexually transmitted infections spread among Cambodian prostitutes. Cambodians complained to the UN mission about UNTAC personnel’s disorderly behavior, drinking and association with prostitutes. The mission’s Special Representative to the Secretary-General (SRSG), Yasushi Akashi infamously replied, “Boys will be boys,” and no disciplinary action was taken.

UNMEE, the UN peacekeeping mission which has been in Eritrea since 2000, also experienced numerous sex scandals involving UN peacekeepers and the local population. Italian, Danish and Slovak peacekeepers were expelled in separate incidents for having sex with minors. In 2001, three Danish soldiers were found guilty of having sex with a 13-year-old Eritrean girl. In 2002, an Irish soldier was caught making pornographic films of Eritrean women...Irish military police investigated allegations that seven Irish peacekeepers used prostitutes who were as young as 15.

I don't mean to put UN blue berets down, but presence of UN troops seem to be harbinger of increased child molestation, pedophilia, and introduction of HIV/AIDS infection to children. This was not the first time, nor is it likely to be the last.

Handy, I'd suppose you would have a hard time finding the specific answer to that question. I wasn't able to find significant personal information about very many of the perpetrators, nor any great public outcry to find them and bring them to justice.

In many ways the UN seems to have the appearance of an organized crime family, where criminals find it easy to move in and out of local jurisdictions. It would seem they can rape a boy or girl in country A and get a plane ticket to country B and vanish into the mass of blue helmets.

So, are we saying that the UN seeks and recruits criminals, or somehow makes normal people become sex offenders?

These people are all adults, and were that way when they took the job. I'm just wondering how much you can blame any organization for the immorality its employees choose.

Handy, Kofi Annan is a criminal. He just plays a liberal elite on tv.

Yes the UN recruits criminals and sex offenders.

Most sex offenders are adults.
