TX-Graham EXECUTED!

I am too glad that justice was served. And I am especially glad about what George said regarding upholding the law of the land regardless of political fallout.
Well done Georgy!!! :D:

Amendment II (1791)
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

So many politicians......so little ammunition!!!

I read that he resisted the guards near the end. I bet that was interesting. "You better cooperate and let us kill you or we're gonna ..." etc.

If they use force on him before they kill him, I wonder if they still have to fill out the use of force report?

I feel that this whole situation will be good
for George W. The liberal media, in trying
to hype this to injure GW has missed the
simple fact that the only innocent person
most of the public care about is the victim.
Here in Washington there is a bank robber,
Mitchell Rupe, who murdered 3 bank tellers,
just for fun. He manipulated the legal system
(claiming he was too fat to be hanged-his
head might pop off!)and has had his sentence
changed to life imprisonment. Not a single
liberal politician, including our govenor,
spoke in favor of this. They knew better.
Of course, Mitchell is white. Anyway the only
candidate getting hurt by this is Little Willy. If GW is an unbending executioner
than by inference Al Gore must be a friend
of murderers and rapists (other than Bill
of course).

I will be flamed, but I need to weigh in on this.

I am adamantly opposed to the death penalty. First, there are significant practical flaws in the system. Numerous innocents have already been executed and death row inmates are often exonerated. The justice system is far from perfect. Executing an innocent person can never be undone. The death penalty is not a deterent to violent crime. It is often more expensive to execute a prisoner than it is to keep him/her in jail for life.

But practical reasons aside, there is an overriding moral reason that the death penalty is incorrect.

It is true that the crimes that death row inmates have committed certainly deserve death. Those who willfully kill, rape, and kidnap do not deserve to draw breath. They deserve nothing but a slow, painful death. A quick lethal injection is too good for them.
However, I submit that neither the state government nor society at large has the authority to execute that prisoner. No one on earth has.

No death row inmate presents a threat to the public at large. They aren't leaving jail. Executing them does not protect the public. Executions serve only to satisfy our need for vengence. We may say that "justice is served." But is it, really, if even one innocent person was executed?

This all being said, I would not hesitate to use deadly force in self defence. I would shed no tears for anyone who was killed while committing a violent crime.

Any thoughts?

Humbly, P

Poplin, my sentiments exactly. It is nice to know there are others of a like mind on the board, although we are a very small minority.

No flames here. I'm of two minds on the death penalty. I personally feel that the death penalty, in concept, is OK. I do worry about executing an innocent person, and do not believe that we have a just setup.
On the other hand, after reading what Graham had admitted to doing, I'm shedding no tears for him.

As to your comments on the government and society at large not having the right to execute a person ... I'm going to mull that one over.

Thanks for the thought provoking post.
