T'would be a shame to lose TFL...

TFL means a lot to me. I have learned much, contributed some, had some fun, and come to value immensely a group of its contributors. As I have expressed to Rick several times, I would be happy to share the burden (financial or other) to KEEP TFL just what it is today: a civil place for the exchange of firearms- and RKBA-related information (plus other "general discussion" topics). What I find most attractive about TFL is the knowledge of its members, their willingness to freely contribute to the education of others, and the general courtesy and respect exhibited by almost all. I would truly hate for this to happen, but if that consideration and decency is ever lost, I will no longer participate.

Finally, thanks once again to Rich and the staff who make TFL possible and are the membership's surrogates.

Damn-
Art Eatman. One of the more knowledgeable hunters I know; a true gentleman; certified curmudgeon. I forgot Art Eatman! One case of Shiner....due and payable.
Rich

Easy Rich, back away from the sword before you fall on it. Don't forget Art is still the FNG so like all those before him, he needs to be humbled from time to time.

Just kidding Art! :)

To paraphrase Sir Winston: "Never, before TFL, have so many owed so much Shiner to so many."

The staff does the work, the staff makes the rules. Easy enough to live by.

If I can be so bold, I'd like to ask a question that's been bugging me for a long time. How is TFL funded? There are no ads, no dues, nothing. It's none of my business, so if Rich or the staff doesn't want to answer, that's fine too.

Thanks for one incredible forum.

Dick

TFL is funded under Executive Order FTW-69, section 1911, para 666, which allows for ATF "Black Ops". The Staff is paid in Gold &/or Platinum (which ever was most recently confiscated by the Customs Department). Appropriations (like the CRAY computer we use as our server) are funneled through a myriad of Agencies so that the final agency/location is impossible to determine.

You can tell houndawg's a newbie - and the answer to that one needs to be in CLOTFLA. It sure does get referenced enough around here.

Dawg, Shiner is a tasty Texas brew. I finally found a place here in Atlanta that has it on tap; still don't know a beer store that has it, but haven't had the chance to look hard.

Good responses, all. Some say "No, it's not censorship." Others say "Yes, it is, but so what?" In both cases, you folks seem to think the staff at TFL is doing just fine (more than!) and so do I.

To answer my own question - Censorship at TFL? Nope. Not a chance. Impossible, in fact.

For example, let's say I go to my neighbors house and paint RKBA! in big red letters on his garage door. Said neighbor paints over the letters in addition to giving me a well deserved punch in the mouth. If I tried to say I was 'censored' by him, I'd most likely be laughed at (at least I hope I would! These days, one never knows...).

If I administer this same paint job to my own garage door and the police show up and tell me to paint it over or they'll arrest me... well... that's something different. Even this could be argued with, but I won't belabor. :)

All in all, I think the moderators here do an outstanding job and we, the members who don't have to pay a dime, reap the benefits.

It's not quite dead yet! It's getting better!

Censorship is when the government or its agent attempts to control the free development or exchange of ideas through any one of various means. Rich isn't the government so it's not censorship. It's simply him exercising his right to tell guests to wathc their language or shut their holes.

Rich, can you modify the title to show that this is merely a hypothetical? I saw it, thought it was going to happen, and almost "peed my kilt"!

During a day filled with legal crap, TFL is my lifeline.

I would just like to say I have no problems with anyone or anything here at TFL. It irks me when Rich is having trouble and I see people get really furious. If TFL is down, I patiently wait, it will be back give Rich some slack (hey I'm a poet and I didn't know it ;)) As for censorship, I guess you could look at it that way or you could look at it the other way and that is (like my Mom would say) watch your mouth! :) If you have been edited or deleted then you most likely have said something inappropriate. I can see both sides to that, but like said above, when you are in someone else's home you abide by their rules, not your own.

It all comes down to this, there isn't a better group of folks than the people here at TFL, staff, admin, and posters. If it weren't for TFL, I doubt I would have learned this much about firearms. I am thankful to all here for that. :)

I see nothing wrong with making sure that people behave themselves and honor the agreement that they made when becoming members of the forum.

I would like to communicate a a hearty THANK YOU to Rich and everyone else that make TFL possible. It is a great site and immensely enjoyable. Again, thank you all very much. (Maybe I'm cheap, but I hate paying for thing on the 'net, too!) ;)

Keep up the good work! :)
