Growing up, I watched a lot of Cops & Robbers / Secret Agent type TV shows. Never paid too much attention to the guns back then, but just curious as to what your favorite TV characters carried?

(for example, Joe Mannix carried some type of .38 snubbie, the men from UNCLE carried some type of pistol, etc.).

The men from U.N.C.L.E.(United Nations Command for Law Enforcement), Napolean Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuriyakin (sp? David McCallum) carried tricked-out Walther P38's. Sometimes tricked out to include, barrel extensions, stocks, and scopes. Typical hooiey. Starsky and Hutch (David Sole and ?????) carried a Python and BHP, respectively (I think). Hmmmmmm... Gidney and Cloyd (the Moon Men on Rocky and Bullwinkle) carried Scrooch Guns. These little gems would freeze you into a statue for a day to a year.

Did Beretta carry a Beretta?

I can't remember.

Sonny Crocket had a Bren 10, pretty cool for a goofy show like Miami Vice.

The blond guy (I thought that was Hutch) carried a Python and I thought the other guy carried a Colt 1911. Additionally, I think Beretta carried some type of revovler -- back then, not many people carried pistols.

Joe Friday carried a six-shot Colt snubbie and members of the A-Team carried S&W 659's. There was another show with some old, well-dressed guy who carried a SS PPK/S.

In the greatest old west "cops 'n robbers" show of them all, "Gunsmoke," Matt Dillon carried a Colt's .45 S.A., the "Peacemaker."

Mike Hammer = 1911A1
Sledge Hammer = S&W M-29
Peter Gunn = Colt Cobra
Yancey Derringer = Lots of Remington dbl derringers.
The Rifleman = '92 Winchester
Johnny Ringo = LeMatt
Josh Randall = cut down '92 Winchester
Combat = M1 Thompson, BAR, M1 Carbine, Garand
Kojak = Colt Dick Special (I think)

Starsky carried an S&W Model 59. Who can forget the Mini 14s carried by the A Team? One or two early A Team episodes featured a BHP, and one with a Linda carbine carried by Hannible. Sonny Crockett went to the 4506 or a 645 after the 10, I think.

I think Crockett only carried the Bren 10 during the first season. I think he went to a S&W full size .45 after that.
Also, Thomas Magnum sometimes packed a 1911 gov. issue .45 He seemed to prefer the "Mexican Carry" vice using a holster.

Let's not forget movies like Magnum force, Dirty Harry and his big bad .44.

one scene he refers to himself and his gun as "us" Harry: "We can't just let you walk out of here" bad guy: "who's we sukua? Harry:Smith, wesson, and me!

Hutch:

Not that I'm a nitpicker ;), but I think you'll find that U.N.C.L.E. stands for "United Network Command for Law and Enforcement"

The P38s had a shortened barrel, flash eliminator, one-piece grips with provision for extended stock and scope (mounted on right-hand side.)

The original U.N.C.L.E. gun was to be a Mauser, and in many old posters you'll see Robert Vaughn holding a Luger.

The secretaries at U.N.C.L.E. HQ all carried Berettas in a holster in the small of their back. In real life, they were "replica" water pistols.

Cheers

Jim Fox, Matt Dillion might have carried a Great Western for awhile. The show ran for 20 years, 1955 through 1975. But I know he carried the Colt's Peacemaker in the later years, as I saw him carrying and using it.

As an aside on MATT DILLON, the opening scenes where he "guns down" the BG, was shot using the Great Western revolver.

The early ads for GW showed Colt SAA's because GW did not have any of their revolvers in country to let the ad people photograph. The Colt identifying marks were airbrushed out in the ads. {Boy, the useless stuff one remembers. :) }

Come on guys who can forget Reed and Malloy with their 4" S&W model 10's with the flip out holsters. They seemed to pull those things out every show!!!

Everyone agrees that Hutch carried a Python but what did Starsky carry? So far we have a Beretta, a Colt, a Browning and a S&W.
