TV Guide slams Tom Selleck & praises Rosie O'Donnell.

I was under the impression that Tom Selleck acted in a polite & civil manner while Rosie O'Donnell appeared like she was going off the deep end both times, but this is what the "Cheers & Jeers" column in the June 24-30, 2000 issue of TV Guide had to say about the matter ...
quote:
CHEERS to a well-armed debate. Katie Couric took careful aim when gun-control advocate Rosie O'Donnell visited NBC's Today show June 1. A security guard employed by O'Donnell had applied for a gun permit and Couric wanted an explanation. O'Donnell was up for the grilling and argued her points thoughtfully. Tough questions, smart answers. Tom Selleck, take a pointer.[/quote]... Well it looks like that another magazine that I won't be renewing my subscription to when it expires. No big loss as I haven't been watching much TV since the little one came along anyway. If anyone can bring me up-to-date on what's been happening during the past three years on Hill Street Blues, JAG, X-Files & Seinfeld (I heard something to the effect that it went off the air a couple of years ago), feel free to e-mail me.

They must have seen a different episode than I saw. The one I saw had Rosie practically slobbering, so much so that she shocked the audience, and Tom Selleck reacting like a gentleman.

Haven't had TV Guide in a while. If I remember correctly, they printed something that hacked me off about six years ago, and I sent them my last issue (shot full of holes) and demanded a refund of my subscription.

FUD,
No flame intended. This is very confusing for me. O'Donnell is a dumbass. Her argument with Selleck illustrated this fact very well. Do you know for a fact that this is what the writter said??

Ridiculous! Slanted Bull%#*&!! I saw every second of that entire clip. That hypocrite blindsided the guy, and IMO he was extremely calm and composed and handled the whole thing quite well, thank you very much. I think she made an ass of herself. The one saving grace is I truly believe Ol' Roastie now deeply regrets ever opening her cake hole on this issue, for a number of reasons. to that, I say...GOOD!!

I deleted a double post here. Some times these pages are so slow you click at those buttons like a crazy man.

"O'Donnell was up for the grilling and argued her points thoughtfully..."

Well golly gee, that's sure a surprise, huh? Particularly inasmuch she knew tha's why she was going to be on, and probably had the questions ahead of time.

"Tom Selleck, take a pointer."

Yes Tom, take a pointer. When you're a guest, insist the host stick to the script. Imagine - not being completely prepared for questions you didn't know were going to come up! (Thought he did pretty good, though.)

Note to self: cancel TVG.

If you hurry (I believe next week's issue hits the stands either today or tomorrow), you can flip through a copy at the store to verify it for yourself -- I was as shocked to read that as you were!

dinosaur, I MEANT to say "NYPD Blues" :o (it was late at night when I typed that -- the little one is two and change)

I saw the interview too, I think Tom Sellek kept his cool very well and Rosie was out of line not even giving him fair oppurtunity to speak. Watch the preview guide, it's easier and it's free. :)

FUD, yep Seinfeld has been off for quite some time now but reruns are always on, X-files is still on I watch those and the reruns, HSB...hmmm thats been gone for a long time now LOL.

Is there a transcript of clip available of this interview anywhere. I remember hearing about it, but I was an anti then and did not really pay attention?

O'Donnell blindsided Selleck in the original interview, and from the outtakes I've seen, he responded appropriately. The Couric interview was a scripted set-up. Don't make the mistake of thinking that Couric or NBC or ANY network hack ever has any interest in being 'balanced and fair'.
O'Donnell has a popular program from which to launch her opinions, with sponsors and a network to exert influence for her. It's not in their interest to support Selleck, he hasn't had a series for a long time.
It's never a mistake, when seeking for reasons for reprehensible behavior, to ask where the money is.

I have watched Couric interview Tom Selleck on several occasions and from both her looks and demeanor it is obvious that she really likes the man. My impression of the interview with slabsides was that Katy was out for a little payback but probably had to rein herself in to avoid offending the people who sign her paycheck. As for the whale, I saw no "smart" or "Thoughtful" answers, just the usual blubber.

FUD,
If you are typing "from paper to screen", that's enough proof for me!
I never liked TVG anyway. This is just another indication that my first impressions were correct.
Anyone who watched the Selleck/O'Donut exchange could easily see a thoughful and controlled man vs. a shrill, unimformed, low class anti.

I have the RealAudio files of the interview on my desktop. I just listened again. It's sickening. Selleck didn't even ask any questions--Rosie did all the "grilling."

I'm heading over to the TVG website to send an email. I'll send copies of the RealAudio files with it so the writer can at least hear the interview once.

Idiots. The only good thing is that I don't have to cancel my subscription to TVG 'cause I don't subscribe to that rag anyway. I know what time the Simpsons come on all by myself, thank you.

Teeeveee Guide has for many, many years, been anti-gun/anti-hunting. Don't forget tht for yers, Clevland Amory was one of their "critics" and the founder of Fund For Animals, which seeks to ban all hunting and all guns.

My opinion is that Teeeeveeee Guide owners and writers are nothing more than the usual Hollywood/New York Mega-Millionaire Marxists.

Same ol' same ol', as with 99.4% of the media and entertainment(???) business.
