Tungsten insert came out?!?!?

It's magnetic reactive.

In my limited experience, as a machinist/mechanic, I have replaced carbide tips on cutting tools and installed new tips also. Glue will not keep them in place and the only secure method was silver soldering. A carbide ring (no matter if its Tungston carbide or another alloy of carbide) can be kept in place in a die by swaging a lip around the ring, but one must be very careful to use no more force than needed and the force should be applied evenly. Carbide is brittle and very easy to break...

It's surely an odd question. I'd suggest either the loctite products or a slow set cyanoacrylate adhesive. Either one will lock it in forever. I'd suggest heating the die to about .250 in an oven so as to give a bit of expansion, or solidly freeze the ring, and not worry a bit about moisture. Cyano actually likes a bit of moisture to set. The idea of pressing it back in with the shell on seems to be your best option, unless you can come up with another way of slipping it in perfectly in one push, all the way. No matter what you do, you're at significant risk of cracking, since carbide is somewhat brittle.

Tungsten is non-magnetic?! Ill be darned . I wear a tungsten wedding band. During the mri I had yesterday, that band buzzed, or vibrated, every time the magnet was activated. Tungsten is a paramagnetic, don't ask me for an explanation.

I kept feeling a tingle in my hand, and after a while found out that it was was the ring. Had been worried wondering when I wound up with with steel in my hands.

I would have taken anything metallic off.

My problem is internal metal installed for repairs several years ago.
I need to go back and ask that orthopedist if I could stand an MRI.
I have seen listings of hardware by make and model and how much magnetic field they will stand, but I don't know just which I have got.

I have had X-ray, CAT scan, and ultrasound, but one of these days, an MRI might be indicated.

It just occurred to me, is that insert so rough that it pulled out because of resistance? Carefully examine sized shells for serious scratching. If your brass is hard to Ron through the die and comes out badly scratched, you have another reason to talk to Lyman and demand, a replacement die .

Btw, referring to carbide, tungsten polishes to a surface that is smoother than glass.. even at extreme magnification it can still be flawless. A maker can choose to create a die that is as smooth as mercury or a rough as a tater tot, it's a matter of spending a little more money, doing it right, and sacrificing a little competitive edge.
My Lyman nine, rcbs.380, and others that I have worked with have been visually perfect.

Yeah the insert is perfect. I only wish my titanium wedding ring had the same finish.

The process of running the brass up to the point that the insert came out was smooth and fluid. No markings on the brass in any way from the die.

It's been at least a week since you emailed Lyman about your problem. Have they really not gotten back to you? Doesn't speak well for their CS.

I'm a patient person, I'll give them a little more time. I did update the request to try to get some update info.

Not so patient. I bought a gosling once for Christmas dinner later that year. He was still the size of a chicken when November came around so I sold him to the old Cajun dude down the block for a six pack of Abita and a pound of baloney.

OK, so here is a follow up of my Customer Service experience thus far. Nothing. Tomorrow marks 10 days in their ticketing system with not so much as a look as of writing this.

I did make an attempt to contact Lyman via telephone and got nothing but an endless ring on the service side of their automated system. This was around 12:00 CDT. Interestingly enough I turned around and called RCBS in a attempt to simply compare customer service. As expected, I was greeted by an automated operator but when transferred I got Mike the customer service rep. A total 180* difference from the competition.

Now, all my gear thus far has been gifted to me. I know, lucky me, however one would expect a little more follow up from a storied company such as Lyman.

Ultimately if I have to fix the thing myself I'm out nothing but time. It's just an interesting experience altogether.

Hey, just a question, did a reply with a question get observing an auto spam filter? They may be waiting for rarely to an email.

No their system is through a ticketing system and not a general email address so there is no chance of a spam email filter.
