Tulammo.. Anyone like it or dislike it

I put 100 rounds through my SIG P220 this week with no failures. It was very dirty and seemed less accurate than Winchester White Box. YMMV

Good question, I found some Tula 9mm at Wallie's super center in NH for $4.95 a box, and put them through my Hi Point carbine with no feeding or misfire issues, just not as accurate as Remmy, and abit more dirty.

^ thats an awesome deal, a box in my area is normally close to double that with brass normally $3-4 more per box

Wasn't Tula but Hornady steel case match ammo. Shot a clip full out of my Ithaca 1911. Well tried a clip full, about the third or fourth round did not completely extract. Took some force to get out of there. Will not try that again!

I use it often. I haven't noticed anything super peculiar about it. I have had some failures using brass after steel and not cleaning. It's not something I really ever thought about until it happened, but I won't do it anymore.

I buy steel case ammo because, after over 40 years of pulling a handle, I'm tired of reloading and stockpiling components. I have enough disposable income to allow me to buy the Tulammo so I often use it. When I shoot brass case ammo I still collect the fired cases because once in a while my son-in-law likes to sit down and pull the handle on the press for awhile. All my shooting is informal, done on a range anymore so I don't need hunting ammo or competition grade target ammo. I'm just a plinker and don't hesitate to use steel case ammo, or the aluminum case ammo that I hoarded some years back. For self-defense ammo I buy the premium cartridges in a brass case.

Wolf, Tula, etc steel cased ammo runs fine in my AK type weapons, such as they were designed.

But- I don't use steel in my other rifles and handguns. It's really dirty so any savings on the price of the ammo is used up on cleaning time and costs.

Also, I'm conscious of the steel vs. steel on my extractor...

I've used Tulammo in .45acp. Other than a really bad smell, I've never had a problem with it in any of my 1911s.

I use the tulamo in .40, .380 and will soon be getting some in 7.62x39. Never had an issue, great for plinking. Wish they had it in 357 SIG.

I've run some through a M1 carbine. The performance is mediocre at best. No failures to feed, fire, or extract.

I have shot at least a couple of pallets of steel case over the years in everything from ARs to AKs to 9mm and 45. I have no problems with it at all. Wolf 45 ammo is some of the most accurate ammo I have used in the classes I have taken. I prefer it at the range because the clean up is done with a magnet on a stick. To each his own, but I say bring on more steel case stuff.

They just run "dirty" so from my experience you need to clean your guns after using Tula ammo.

some people despise that stuff, but its pretty cheap for plinking and range use. I've never had any issues with Tula.

You will notice it does have a different smell than others, and will have more smoke residue after each shot.

Bought a box of .380 at Wal-Mart. One to two rounds in every mag of my Walther PPK/S had a failure to fire. Looked like a normal primer hit. Most of the time pulling the trigger again made the round go off but I had one round that just would not go no matter how many times I pulled the trigger.

That Walther had about 500 rounds or so through it at that point. My confidence in it was a bit shaken since I didn't have any other rounds to test in it that day. Next range trip it digested a box of hollow points no problem, like normal.

My PPK doesn't like Tula. But I guess it would be ok if you wanted to practice malfunction drills. I think I have a couple more boxes in different calibers I haven't tested out yet.

I have blasted away a great deal of Russian ammo and never had a problem with any of it. A walk around the range I frequent, the ground is littered with probably a ton of empty Russian steel cases. A testimony to the popularity of Russian stuff.
At one of my range trips, the guy next to me was shooting Tula ammo in his H&R single shot rifle in 308. Several of his last rounds failed to fire. I examined his rounds and noted light firing pin strikes.
At the same time, I was punching exceptional groups with my Rem 700 target rifle in the same caliber with my reloads. The guy next to me allowed me to fire the 3 rounds that failed to fire in is H&R thru my 700. To our surprise, the 3 rounds not only fired, but the printed a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards.
As a rule, I never fire Russian ammo thru my target rifle and will never do so again.

I shoot lots of them trough my 9mm as training ammo, I've never had any problem with it at all.
They're very dirty but since I clean my gun everytime I shoot them it's no big deal.
Concerning the "steel vs extractor" concern every gunsmith I spoked about it laughed... They all said: "if the steel of your extractor is soft enough to be damaged by the very soft steel case from this kind of ammo then you've got a big problem!"

I don't have problems with steel cased ammo like Wolf, silver bear and brown bear. I do have a problem with the Tulammo.

In my experience, it smells something awful. It's bad enough that after every magazine, I have to leave the range to get air. This indoor range has good ventilation BTW.

It's power levels are inconsistent as well as the accuracy. When I've shot the Tulammo, I've had to check my barrel multiple times since the recoil feels so dull so I'm constantly wondering if I have a squib.

Accuracy is poor and it leaves the gun looking like a sewage drain hole afterwards. In my neck of the woods, the stuff only cost about $1 - $1.50 less then the brass ammo so to me, it's not even worth it. I've shot the 9mm and 45acp examples with the 45acp being worse. If you can find it cheap, I'd say it would be good for someone with a class 3 FA firearm but I wouldn't test the accuracy of a gun with it.
