Tula 1932 Hex Mosin Nagant (Star)

I have a 1930 tula with the octagonal receiver (I have never understood why people call it "hex"). It is easily capable of hitting a stationary clay pigeon at 100 yards with cheap steel cased ammo. I haven't handloaded for it because the ammo is cheap and I can't find any 7.62x54R brass. I haven't mounted a scope to mine but I know they make mounts for long eye relief scopes that mount on the rear sight base. They also have wrap around mounts, but they also require a bent bolt handle to function. As others have said, I urge you to not make any permanent modifications as the tula models aren't as common, and I'd hate to see another butchered pre WWII rifle the next time I walk into my LGS.

The bolt wrench/guage came in and got it adjusted after I took it apart and used boiling water to get the cosmo out. That followed with wd40, then finally a cleaning with hopes and then a light oil wipe down. I took boiling water to the wood and wiped it off. It was cold outside so I think I have more to wipe on it. I am a bit hesitant as I don't want to rub off anymore finish. I think the cosmo helped make it look browner for the sale of the gun. The pictures look better than the actual piece. The barrel also had some bluing rub off in a couple places. Hope to get it out for a shooting if the weather ever co-operates.

Couldn't upload the pix as I keep being told about a missing security token. Used two different pc's and both failed. One has lots of security and the other is minimum security (wife's pc :D)

I bought a hex receiver about 50 years ago. I shot Norma ammo (THe only ammo available at the time) to hunt deer. It shot well, but the barrel was sooo long it really helped on the sighting accuracy. It went in the closet as soon as I could afford a real deer gun. I put it in with some auction guns a few years ago and it went slightly over $300. That really surprised me. I really have no use for them myself. Look on the barrel for the importers address. If it is not marked, I would not mess with it other than to clean it. It is your rifle, do what you want, but if it came in before the import markings were stamped on guns it is probably worth more than you paid for it already.
