TSA payback? Go directly to jail.

lets compare.......

Today as I headed south on I-75 towards Detroit I noticed a State Trooper with radar in hand on the north side.........a moment later I started counting State Police motorcycles........ 4 in the median lined up waiting for a call to nab speeders in this construction zone.........another 1/4 mile I begin to count numbers 5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and yes last one I saw was #12. I have never seen anything of this nature and number before.... The money these guys cost to put on MSP bikes and wages total must be huge. In Michigan the construction zone gets you a double fine......anyhow, my case in point is do I think it's worth it? At first I was ticked to see so much $ in such a small spot. As I thought about it for a minute, I remember how crazy some motorist continue to speed in this 45mph zone....... I admit I hit the slow lane at 52-53 yet vehicles blast past me doing 65-70. Yes, I can estimate that because I was in law enforcement long enough to know what speeds look like verse other vehicles and my own. The questions are: Is this just the State collecting major funds here? Or can we give them the benefit of doubt and hope they are there to send a message to slow down to protect the lives of these road workers and the drivers themselves.......?????

So is federal $ from tax payers worth putting a trained and uniformed TSA in place? I think it is......... I respect your view if you disagree.......just not sure that arming everyone in the plane that has limited training is the right idea either........

Can you tell me how many planes have been jacked since the TSA started the new security mission........? How many persons have been killed by attackers on commercial aircraft........? How many flights on an average travel day......? You don't think having TSA in place has helped at all.........?
no i dont think the TSA has helped to make our nations airways any more secure.

for that matter, since the TSA started the new security mission, i havent had irritable bowel syndrome. by your analagy, i guess we could say the TSA has cured my IBS?
or to keep this more on topic for firearms, your analagy is much like the anti's argument that violent crime was reduced by the passing of the AWB in '94.

sorry about your health issue????

I'm not sure about your bathroom issues.........TMI ;)

Thanks for the debate........was fun.......and educational too.........

Regards.........Headinsandrojoe67........(sounds like Dances With Wolves?)

rojoe, is your head in the sand? we are still in the same vulnerable boat as we were 4 years ago. but now we get to watch our spouses, parents, and children get harrassed while achmad gets waved through the security checkpoint simply because they cannot 'profile'.

I have never seen achmed, bubba, jose, nor anybody just waved past after they set the metal detector off

I have been picked for random searches by the airline computer which picks so many on each flight not sure of the methodology. It happened to me once using the electronic check in.

I personally have not seen Achmed get waved through nor recieve any preferential treatment as you state.

Maybe Achmed went to the TSA website and prepared himself for air travel better than Bubba did?

I personally don't think the TSA has made things safer

Lots of "dangerous things" make it onto planes every day

The threat of discovery may be helping, but I truly believe that the terrorists understand that the old plan won't work twice.

But what really kills me is that

1. No hockey sticks or baseball bats as carry ons but Grandma can bring a big heavy cane

2. No lighters, but I can bring a pump bottle of some unknown liquid

The lady in question screwed up plain and simple...It is really not much different than having slugged a cop at a traffic stop.

My boss had a TSA employee get a little physical with him but he kept his cool and the TSA jerk got written up.

Can you tell me how many planes have been jacked since the TSA started the new security mission........? How many persons have been killed by attackers on commercial aircraft........? How many flights on an average travel day......? You don't think having TSA in place has helped at all.........? Who has who's head in the sand my friend????? Don't make it personal because you show your ability when you do that....

Prove that it's TSA that had an effect, rather than terrorists recognizing that passengers no longer believe the "if you give them what they want, they won't hurt you." Further prove that the gov't's statement that hijacked or even stray aircraft will be escorted and shot down before they can reach a critical area has had less effect that TSA.

You're arguing from your bias, and failing to take into account the other factors. Further, you're ignoring TSA's incredible string of failures, including people still getting weapons on board accidentally or as part of a test.

Buzz buzz........

Remember my head is in the sand......Just wanted to start that way for you..... in case you missed it last night.

So, as you point out no hard data proves that TSA has any positive reflection on air travel in general. It would be hard to measure a lot of safeguard issues wouldn't it? Ok, then it's also fair to say that since no hard data proves it - If your walking in a electrical storm your more likely to be hit by a bolt than if you were sprinting........ What about if a city hires 3 life guards to maintain a 1/4 mile beach in 2003. Nobody is rescued during that summer. The next year the city only brings back 2 life guards. That year one little swimmer goes under and is a tragic loss of life. Can we build data in a fair manner on such an example? I sure wouldn't want to guess that one out either. Sure, my examples are a bit stretched but does it make the point? Maybe not, maybe we would all do better to just tell them to close up the TSA and go back to Barney and Company Security. I sure as heck wouldn't fly with the conditions the way they were before 9-11 in this new age..... Yes, as I think I stressed in a few other posts, $ is an issue. We don't get BMW quality for a Suzuki price. OK, argue that too.......sure you can if it's used.......bla bla bla............. BOTH sides have some points that are correct............ I'll end on that. :D

TSA has some real Darwin award candidates employed, one confiscated a nail clipper from an Airline pilot. DUH!!!!!!! the pilot has an escape axe in the cockpit, he also controls the fate of the plane and passengers. This is one example of how authority goes to some peoples head, sadly some people will abuse their authority with arrogance and stupidity.

How would you guys feel if some TSA agent groped your scrotum under your boxers? Maybe because one may have balls of steel, or are wearing a cast iron jockstrap and they set off the magic wand. We are looking at this from mans point if view, big deal she groped her under her bra. Why arent they using some kind of thermal imaging, we had this at a high security Air Base I was at and we could determine if someone had anything under their clothing without intrusion. I understand security, but lots of woman wear underwire bras. I also feel there is no set standard as when to search and when not to, its up to the descretion of the agent, and like the one who took the pilots clippers, some are just plain DUH!

I guess the answer is go braless if your a woman and wear speedo's with no pants on if your a guy. They should have different procedures, like a handheld swivel mirror to look into the bra or mans pants like mechanics use at a garage. I think there are better solutions than groping someone. Also like a previous poster said, we cant profile and check only the middle eastern types and those that fit the terrorist profile, they might get offended and make a call to CNN or worse yet the DNC! I feel that yes anyone is capable of being a problem, but we must get real also. Other methods can be used that are less intrusive and humiliating.

TSA employees

A bit off the subject.
I have think that the TSA should recruit retired teachers. They are used to having authority and unlikely to abuse it(mostly) and they have spent 30 years spotting guilty behavior. Didn't your Mid School teachers always know when you were up to something?

TSA = Thousands Standing Around

* I applied for a TSA job when they first came out. X-USAF (Intelligence), ALP-LTC, layed off from the electronics world, why not. I filled out their online form, and got the point about experience....Basically they won't hire anyone that didn't already work as a screener, that's right folks the same people that worked as screeners pre-9/11 work today as screeners. They just have fancy uniforms, and a kick-butt benefits program.

*Logan Airport (Boston): Everytime AND I MEAN EVERYTIME, they do a security test they fail. The last time was over a year ago (maybe the FAA gave up testing) they let thru "training" hand-grenades, pistols, and knifes. As far as I know, only retraining for those involved - never heard of a TSA person getting canned for anything.

*I don't fly anymore, I don't need the trouble. Rude TSA jerks, take your shoes off,... q:What's that in your briefcase? a:It's a pen, let me show you. q:No, you can't show us, where is it? a:In the pen holder compartment. q:Is this it? a:Yes, that's my pen.

After 2 minutes in the X-ray, they decided they had never seen a pen like that but they "guess I could keep it".

Screw them, I take my truck. On long hauls, the camper comes along and I see the country.

Sure, my examples are a bit stretched but does it make the point? Maybe not, maybe we would all do better to just tell them to close up the TSA and go back to Barney and Company Security.

There are various tools available to measure the worth of security measures. I have yet to see one that showed the "enhanced" security of the TSA has played any role in improving security compared to the measures.

By the way, those TSA agents? They used to be employees of the Barney and Company Security agency. The feds just nationalized them, resulting in more cost, a bigger federal worker's union, and less accountability.

Ok

A few of you folks are not telling the full truth are you? All TSA agents were not all former screeners......That is BS and I have proved it and will continue if you want.........No, I think I will go to the range now......... How silly to argue any longer on this point........

I give up......... anyone who says TSA is all bad and no good........ well, you win.............. We will call the game due to lack of further interest in debate.....

Can a man be searched by a female TSA employee?

Can a man ASK to be searched by a TSA female employee? I'd rather be "searched" by a woman any day, than by some gay guy getting his kicks doing pat-downs? Heck...it might even be a little fun, if she's cute!

tyme:

The pen is a Pilot 'Dr. Grip', it has two buttons at the top (one for the ink, one for the 0.5mm lead).

TSA is a f'ng joke. It's all window dressing nowadays, there is no such thing as security. Research what hundreds (if not thousands) of pilots are now saying about the Flight 587 incident. I flew from Washington DC to Louisville yesterday, the TSA "screeners" working at Dulles were a bunch of damn high school kids. All window dressing.

Oh, and I carry a bottle of wine on the plane with me every time I fly, will make a much better defensive weapon than the toenail clippers I had to leave behind. Window dressing.
