trying to narrow the selection btwn ruger and cz

Ruger, pic for looks

Everyone always says the Ruger is ugly, and that may apply to the early P-series guns, but I don't think the P95 or P97 are ugly.

Strictly for light-hearted entertainment purposes :D , I've put together a collage of 4 popular pistols (see attachment).
In the looks department, I'd rank them this way:
1) Ruger (simple, functional, clean)
2) CZ (bigger even than the Ruger, kinda homely)
3) Glock (blocky, slightly larger than the Ruger)
4) HK (looks like a Klingon death ray)

If they're equal to you (the CZ or Ruger), go with the Ruger - it's American made, by an American company, affordable, accurate and durable. IMHO.

Good luck!

Well, Japan tried to destroy us and did a hell of alot more damage to us than the commies ever did in lives, materials and costs. But people just can't seem to do without the cars, electronics, etc.
CZ has not done anything I can think of to hurt me or this country in these current times. They are now a republic and going capatialist. I do not believe in punishing the sons for the sins of the fathers.
The ruger is a fine weapon that can stand on its own merits---it is just not right for me.
The cz is right for me due to the option of dbl action or condition one carry.
Rubber grips are available for the cz from butler creek, pachmayer, hogue, etc.
hogue also produces some fine smooth or checkered wood grips for the cz.

Fair and balanced trade? Not.
We report, you decide. :D

Like I said---captialist.
The American market can compete if Washington would let them. In the meantime, I'll take the quality of the cz75 series at the good prices. Captialism at its best!
By the way, there are alot more people in this country---head count to head count, does that not mean there are more buyers here than in the czech republic?
czech population as of mid-2001 is estimated at 10,300,000
USA population estimated at 284,500,000
we have 274,200,000 more people here. of course we buy more from them than we export---unless they are all billionaires.
(got curious and went to the population reference bureau)

I have a Ruger and my buddy has a CZ...I REALLY prefer my handgun over his but it's just because mine feels better (and shoots more accurately) in my hands...and I like the way my P94 looks! have fun picking which one is right for you,
Tony.

They are now a republic and going capatialist. I do not believe in punishing the sons for the sins of the fathers.

Not only that, but I would like to remind everyone that the people of the former Czechoslovakia did not freely elect communists into government. The communist regime was imposed on them by the occupying Russian forces.

In fact, when you think about it, while we are slip-sliding deeper and deeper into the leftist quagmire, perhaps we should take a look at the Czech Republic and other peoples of the former Eastern Europe and take heart in the fact that they managed, against overwhelming odds, to abolish the oppressive communist regimes.

From my personal experience I can attest that during those dark years of communism in Eastern Europe the United States probably could not find more friends anywhere in the world than among the people of those countries.

Anyone who thinks that the regular folks in the streets of the former Eastern Europe ever considered USA their enemy has a complete lack of understanding of the history of that region.

Right!
As pointed out before, the CZ is a $450.00 (at least, more like $500.00) pistol priced at $350.00. The price on them is sure to go up more than the Ruger.

FWIW, an astute caller to one of the Saturday morning talk radio shows pointed out that 1900 England voiced the same concerns that cheap American imports were flooding their shores. ;)

I will jump in here again...get the CZ. Its a better gun for the money, IMO. Rugers are good, none the less, but the CZ is a couple of steps better. Most compare it with any other world class gun....how many times has the Ruger been compared with Glock, Sig, Beretta....etc.

As far as the political points made....We are talking about little countries very close to what used to be the worlds biggest and
most dominant Communist Country...Russia...I believe they have
done very well....given the circumstances..no longer Commie, but
Capitalist....And if we buy more from them than they do from us....check out the rest of the world..it follows suit. At least it isnt an American Co...that still has a knife in my back....Ill buy a 100
to a Smith.....

See what happens when I bring up the Cheerleader analogy :D

Shoot well

"how many times has the Ruger been compared with Glock, Sig, Beretta....etc. "

I will, right now. I own a Glock 17. I have owned a Sig and have owned a Beretta. I shot them all extensively. I didn't try my buddies, I didn't rent one, I OWNED them each for over a year and fired thousands of round through them. I now shoot a Ruger P89. And, yes, I acutally shoot it. An IPSC, production class match last week end. This weekend I am planning on shooting two IDPA matches all with the P89. Is the P89 better than the others ? No. But I personally don't see a whole lot of difference. It funtions everytime and the accuracy is plenty good enough for this type of competition. I have also used it hunting and have actually taken game with it. It's accuracy and reliablility were again, fine. I am sure that it's accuracy and reliability would prove to be there in the game involving your life. Note that in the previous posts, no one compared accuracy, function, practical features etc. They compared stuff like; would my friends be impressed ? Are there any chances of my gun being on a magazine cover ? Am I pleased with it's looks ? I personally don't care about any of that. I am much more interested in how it works. And, the Ruger WORKS as well as any of the others. Better than some.
Again, let me say that I don't think the Ruger is better than the others. The ones I owned were all great guns and didn't give me a lick of trouble. Just like the Ruger doesn't.
