Well, in taking everyones advice on buying a new gun i went to the range and rented a p95. i only shot 100 rounds through it, but it was a great experience. the gun, is large, but i'm looking for a large frame pistol, i don't intend to use it cc, and they fit my hand better.
anyhow, the ruger felt great in my hand, it had smooth firing, did't kick much at all, and didn't misfire, or anything bad. this gun was dirty (being a range gun) but that didn't matter and i put 50 rounds of dirty cheap wolf ammo through it. my brother n laws browning hp had 2 feed problems with the same ammo when i used his. so i like the p95

what i didnt like was the finish in the blued slide, it didnt look that good, and had a purplish tint to it, but looks aside it fired and felt great, and that matters more to me than the look of a well used and probably poorly kept gun.

abother shooter had a kp89 and that gun looked really great and he raved aboutit, it also felt sturdier than the p95 and the upgraded grips he had on it was fantastic feeling.

can you up grade the grips on the 95? they looked like part of the frame, and by sliding a cover over the top, may make it too thick?

anyhow, really like the ruger 95 feel, like the 94 or 89 with a different grip. the browning is closeto feel of the cz, and i did hold an italian clone of the cz and it was heavey and didn't fil my hand as well as the ruger, it did have a smaller overall width, so im not sure if i like it better, though the hp was more accurate, but that another post
i seem to be having problems aiming,im right handed, but it feels better looking through mu left eye, a guy at the range was helping me with that, any insight on this as well would be appreciated since the advice i get here is pretty good,

i went to the shop to buy the cz ir ruger and they were out of each, they're ordeing more, i'll try to make up my mind by comparing side bu side. also, any one know about this italian clone, it manufacture began with a f, and i seem to remeber something about witness on it?

FWIW, I purchased my second P95 (stainless) decocker model a couple of weeks ago. Had purchased one when they first came out, but sold it early last year to help pay for several CZ's I bought. Anyway, the new P95 is just about as accurate as my CZ 75B. Only has about 400 rounds through it so far with another 100 or so planned for later this morning.

I have added the Hogue HandAll grip sleeve and, for me, it is a welcomed addition. I don't think it makes the grip that much larger, but it is a non-slip surface: especially the finger grooves on the front surface. Well worth the $5.00 I spent on it. I've had the HandAll on all my P-series Rugers (4).

i'm glad to hear you have both, the price diffrence between the 2 is only 20 dollars (330 for the kp95 and 350 for the CZ75B), which would you prefer if you had to take just one. I'm looking for unwavering reliablity, but i want to get good at shooting (and righ now i'm not too good). also can you easily get a new grip for the cz?

Girl in health class????????????????

Dilema time.
The Ruger is a great all around gun. You never hear anything bad about them and you always hear a little great stuff about them. They seem to do almost everything right.

(Kinda like the pretty cute girl who sat next to you in health class, cute and smart, who never caused trouble and never was rumored to take on the football team, go out for cheerleading or make the High Honor Roll.:D) I will get killed for that analogy!

Nothing really super-great or really bad!

The CZ is another great gun. It has been a sleeper in the states.
The whole world, literally, has known about CZ's for years and are finally getting known here! It has been put on every "top ten guns of the century" list that I have seen...the 75 series, anyway.

You can get aftermarket grips for the CZ's from CZUSA, Hogue, etc. Alot of stuff is just coming out recently...holsters, grips, sights etc...Hakan grips (check out cz.forum) are handmade in Norway and are very very nice and a great price also.

(I will leave out my analogy for the CZ...K? )

Tough choice.....I would side with the CZ if it were me.

Shoot well

YEP -- EAA WITNESS

CZ clone, not as nicely finished, more sporadic owenership experience.

Not important, as you like the Ruger.

Buy the Ruger (first), good guns, plenty of hi-caps still around. Then, if you feel the 'need' (addiction for most of us) you can add a CZ later!

I own three EAA Witnesses, all needed 'work', all are 'keepers'.

Rugers are OK, CZ's are exceptional

Get the CZ. Its a $450 gun priced around $325 if you get the CZ-75B Mil, with the 10 round and hicap mag included. Its accurate, reliable, all steel, old world craftmanship.

I own a CZ75B and a P95. Both are good reliable guns. The pros and cons have been pointed out in earlier replies. I own 2 other quality 9mm's, both of which are more expensive than the P95 and CZ. If I had to get rid of two 9's (shudder) the CZ and Ruger would stay.

I think the CZ is a better quality gun and looks better, but neither has had a failure of any kind and both are equally accurate in my hands (not saying much). If you like the Ruger better get that. I also have the Hogue handalls on it and they make a difference for me. If you decide on the Ruger by all means get the CZ later.

i seem to be having problems aiming,im right handed, but it feels better looking thro

How keeping?

With regards to the above, you need to determine what is your dominant eye.

Aim at a target with both eyes open. Then close each eye and see which eye keeps the gun on target. The eye that keeps the gun on target is your dominant eye. Let me know the outcome-from what you are saying it looks as if it is your left eye that is the dominant eye. Note that you could be right-handed but your left eye is dominant.

With regards to the gun choice both are good guns for the money. Buy the one which points best for you and with which you are more comfortable. If it is still difficult to choose go with ..... both.

I'd go for the CZ ... if nothing else because Ruger supported the assault weapon ban and the ban on full capacity magazines.

Why is it when Ruger is brought up I'm the only one who brings this up yet everyone is ready to jump all over S&W? (I'm not defending S&W, I just think Ruger deserves some of the same wrath from gun owners that S&W is getting).

Zundfolge, using your logic, why buy from a former Communist country? After all, Communism tried to destroy the US. That's much worse than anything Ruger ever did. SamC

I've owned a P89 so I know the Rugers from experience, I haven't owned a CZ yet (soon) so I only know it from its reputation.

Both are great guns, I'm glad you've decided to go with one of these two. It means you WILL get a great gun at a great price whichever way you decide for sure.

My P89 was a great gun, the only reason I no longer have it is that I really wanted a .45 (I shouldn't have traded though). It is durable (built like a tank), reliable (no FTFs or FTEs on mine), accurate (especially for the price) and much less than guns of the same quality. In short a great deal. It is a little more crude in fit and finish than the CZ. Some think it is ugly, though some like it (I like its looks).

The CZ has all the pluses of the Ruger (again I haven't owned one but I've done a lot of research). It is far ahead of Ruger in the fit and finish catagory. It is a truely beautiful gun (very few will argue with that).

If you don't like the grips the CZ has traditional grips and is thus easier to change. If you get the Ruger P95 you can't change the grips, only add a slip on. The P94 (it is available in 9mm or .40) is essentially the same gun but in alloy and with removable grips (and very nice grips from the factory). The P89 is nice too with removable grips (though it is bigger and the grips aren't as nice as the P94).

I will be buying the CZ first. For me I've already had the Ruger and loved it but I really want a CZ and it is an unsatisfied itch (this is not an indicator of quality, simply I've already had one and I'd like the different one before getting a replacement for one I've already owned). If I never had the Ruger I don't know which way I'd go.

To quote Apollo Creed in Rocky III, "You fight great; but I'm a great fighter!" These could easily be CZ's words for Ruger.

Go for the CZ.

The key word is FORMER. When Ruger and S&W repudiate their anti-RKBA activities they will be in the same class as the Czech Republic's CZ. :D

In addition to what CastleBravo said one can also consider the former Soviet republics to be a defeated enemy, thus buying their pistols at a good price is just one of our spoils of victory :)

Also, Ruger has no excuse ... he's supposed to be "one of us" not "one of them".

My point is just that I'm surprised that while people are all up in arms about S&W, they seem not to even know what Ruger has done.

The CZ-75B and the P-95 are great, economical guns, worth more than their cost.

I've had both and prefer the CZ. But that's me.

You need to handle both and, if possible, shoot both. If not, find which fits your hand the best, and which points most naturally. The trigger on the 75 is likely to be a bit better than the 95, but both can be tweaked.

This is now a personal decisions. Yours.

I've never fired the Rugers, mainly because I don't like their feel in my hand. I own a CZ-75B, of the military variety, and full-caps are still quite available. My parents each own an old compact Tanfoglio (sp?), the Italian copy from back when the Czechs were languishing behind the iron curtain. They've had them for years with nary a problem. My CZ has been just as good. The finish is awesome for durability. It's more accurate and easier to shoot by far than my old S&W. The only 'problem' is that it doesn't like the Wolf steel case ammo. It won't even hand-cycle it reliably, though I attribute it to the ammo, since both of my parents' guns do the same.
The bottom line for you would be to try both and go with the one that fits you the best. I wish you the best.
[Man, I LOVE having to pick a gun! What could be more fun?!?!:D )

CastleBravo says: "The key word is FORMER. When Ruger and S&W repudiate their anti-RKBA activities they will be in the same class as the Czech Republic's CZ."

IIRC, Ruger donated $1 million to the NRA. That's quite a bit of "repudiation" in anyone's book. As for $&$, let them die. SamC
