Trying to find MY pistol

My XD40 subcompact was my first semi-auto, and I thought it was going to be my permanent carry pistol.

In time, I decided I needed to go even smaller, so I picked up an early LCP.

When LCP got recalled, I decided to look into a 9mm carry piece and ended up with a Kahr PM9. It seems to be the perfect compromise between the heavy and lightly bulky XD and the tiny LCP.

But the XD remains a very fine pistol that I enjoy shooting and carrying holstered under a winter coat.

Snowmanx7,

This is the eternal handgunner's question. It's fun trying to figure it out.

Have you considered the S&W M&P series of pistols? I really, really like the M&P 45 Compact. It is shorter than a Glock 19 (slightly more concealable) and holds 8+1 rounds of 45 ACP. It shoots really well and the trigger weight and reset can be tuned. Add some better sights and you're good to go.

Had one, couldn't carry it comfortably and so I got rid of it. It was before I was rescued from the cult of IWB as the only way to go.
In a lot of ways, I've found the trigger to be far superior to the Glock in that it feels like you're pulling a trigger and not pushing a button. I liked the grip a lot better than the Glock's too. The finish wasn't as nice, but word is that they've since fixed that problem.
In addition to liking the trigger better than those on the Glocks, I also found it preferable to the standard DA/SA action on most pistols these days.
Whoever said it wasn't a very exciting gun had it right, though, if that's what you're into. It's the Ford Taurus of the semiauto world.

Good for you Snowmanx7.

My go to gun is the GLOCK 20. It's an easy choice since so few guns are made in 10mm, which is "my" caliber. It would have been my choice anyhow because I love the simplicity and engineering. (It's the only current model that was specifically designed for the 10mm, not the .45 ACP)

Hey, now you'll have to check out the XD Tactical, the Compact, the XD(m), etc. :p

"YOUR pistol will be the one that feels like you were born with it in your hand. That you are accurate with. That's totally reliable."

That, I totally agree with. I haven't tried the XD, but my Beretta 87 Cheetah just screamed to me, "this is the one". The minute I picked it up, I knew that was the one for me. Same thing goes for my Beretta 92F. For whatever reason, Berettas just fit MY hand best.

I have looked at the S&W M&P 9mm, and that's a very-close second. I'm not crazy about polymer-framed guns, but if I were to get one, the M&P would be it.
