Try not to drool on your keyboards fellas lol

Yes, Those In the Know, Know. Interesting about the revolvers going out of time, IIRC they were quite popular with Metallic Silhouette shooters using very powerful cartridges, I wonder if they experienced that.
Dan Wesson (the company) was like the Phoenix, it died and was reborn several times, unlike say Weatherby or Ruger when Old DB IV departed this life there was no Crown Prince or management team to carry on.

I love them. Always a little surprised no one has made a conversion for a GP100, 686 or such. I don't have a 357 revolver now and probably won't buy another until I can afford a DW pistol pack or 715+ additional barrels.

I don't doubt, but I can not find the 715 on the CZ website.

For those that may not be aware (as many of you probably are aware), Magnum Research, which owns Dan Wesson, now belongs to Kahr Arms. There was some movement in making some large frame revolvers but during the SHOT show something happened to dampen that interest. Hopefully it's just a temporary set back.

Edit, Please see below for me eating some of my words, apparently I only had part of the story..... Ooops

Hello all,
Hey Cascade, I thought CZ owns Dan Wesson?

I think DW are great I just wish I could get a DW barrel on a GP-100.

Happy shooting

Not to rain on your parade but, DW parts were only surfaced hardened, so as they wore the guns went out of time. A lot of owners did not understand the need for the cylinder gap so bbls were screwed in too tight. They never sold well and as you can see they are no longer made. They were however very accurate pistols. I don't think a lot of the owners ever read the manual for the gun and that helped lead to its down fall.

Most all small parts are "only surface hardened" no matter the manufacturer. You have problems when a over zealous gunsmith hones too much metal away when doing trigger job cutting past the surface hardening.

To tight of barrel gap only causes binding at the chamber face. The real problem was to wide of gap causing flame cutting on the top strap.

CZ is making DW revolvers and replacement parts.

They are indeed very accurate, a result of the barrel tension.

My three most accurate .357's, a M15-2 and a pair of M27 S&W's.

This .357 super mag is beyond accurate.

News to me.

And cz.

And information to me (it's been that kind of week, I also thought ALL Ruger Mk III's had poly frames...)

Not sure why Magnum Research had tooling that used to belong to Dan Wesson but it may explain why the order for frames was suddenly canceled. What a Bummer (and the Magnum Research BFR, I think it's obscene).

I'm speculating that Kahr bought MR who had the tooling, figured "Oh wow, MR has the Dan Wesson tooling, lets make some wessons". They place an order and trot out to the Shot Show and one way or another they realize CZ owns the name and the balloon goes up. I guess the next step is to figure who owns what, names, designs, tooling. maybe Kahr can make the firearm but not use the name or maybe CZ owns the designs as well. Doesn't look good though.

Sorry for the misinformation.

The Dan Wesson was designed by in the 1950s by one Karl R. Lewis, who also designed the Colt Mark III action and the Browning Lever Rifle. I suspect the patents are long expired so some enterprising soul could manufacture his own version-cf all the versions of the M1911- though he couldn't call it a Dan Wesson.
The barrels interchange between the M-12 and M-15, the shrouds don't. The stainless steel barrels fit nicely on the blued guns.

Very nice! Now I am kicking myself all over again. When I first got into shooting had a chance to buy the exact same set up in the brown case with 3 barrels. The guy behind the counter suggested it and I said it looked kind of old looking. So he shrugged his shoulders and I went for a Kimber. Oh if I had only known!

LOL. This thread totally destroyed my Dan Wesson thread.

Cool heads up on the stainless barrel! Thought that would work but its nice to know someones already tried it. I might try and find a stainless 8" to replace the one on my gun after cleaning it I noticed its seen better days.

I wish I could find a pistol pack like that for a reasonable price.

If anyone has a original DW 8" barrel they are willing to part with let me know blue or stainless. Also anyone know of a place where I can find those pachmayr Presentation grips (besides ebay) and do they come with a mounting screw or do you just use the standard one the gun ships with?
