TRT in California

Some gunowners in the People's Republik of Kalifornia (SoCal, specifically) are interested in establishing a chapter of the Tyranny Response Team here in the so-called "Golden State".

The idea of a forming a protest-oriented group has sprung up in the last several months due to the oppressive legislation now bombarding us from Sacramento, as well as the just-passed CA DOJ hearings regarding the implementation regulations for their most onerous piece of legislation, SB 23, another so-called "assault weapons" ban.

Since the NRA, CRPA, etc. do not appeart to want to soil their hands with the grassroots level, some members of the local NRA councils here have been considering forming a group just like the TRT, so our discovery of this group's existence in Colorado is indeed fortunate and timely. Why reinvent the wheel when there is already an organization established that is doing _exactly_ what we desire to -- go after the gun-grabbers whereever and whenever they may roost.

I'm currently working on obtaining any and all information available on how
to get a TRT "chapter" built in California. I will then relay this
information to my fellow pro-freedom advocates. Please know ahead of time that I'm a total beginner at this, but I tend to jump in with both feet once I've decided to move.

Thanks in advance.

Joe great idea an initiative. By your profile you live in my neck of the woods. How can I help?
This will be a tough fight considering we have no representation in the senate, but I like it. :D

Hmmm... This poor thread is looking like a ghost town. In fact, it isn't even visible on the list of existing threads under "Legal and Political". What happened? Maybe this post will "bring it back to the surface".

A much more active thread on the topic of a TRT in the PRK can be found at http://www.eaglesup.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000028.html.

Again, anyone who wants to stand up and be counted before CA is a total loss, please let me know.

Howdy, folks,

Current status on CA TRT memebership -- we currently have about 75 people signed on. We need more members! Like I said earlier, until we have the numbers, we won't achieve the desired effect.

What we really need is to get the interest of a local radio station or two like the CO TRT has -- and enormous advantage. There's a lot of people who would join this effort if they knew it existed! They don't have computers, or haven't monitored the channels as it were, and we need alternative means of reaching folks. So we need to figure out how to get radio and/or TV coverage somehow. I've contacted Jimmy Valentine of the Roger Hedgecock show here in San Diego at AM 600, but so far, silence. We need some people within the industry to get us on the air.

Some other things we can do in the meantime:

1) TELL EVERYONE ELSE YOU KNOW about this and get them to sign on.

2) Make up some flyers and pass them out at the local gun clubs and NRA/CRPA meetings. Feel free to use my name, email and phone numbers as contact points.

3) Write letters to the editors of your local papers that talk about us and what we're trying to accomplish.

4) Buy an ad in the CRPA's "Firing Line".

5) Buy one of Colorado's TRT-Shirts until we get our own and start wearing them everywhere! They are $15 each and can be phone-ordered by calling800-205-6245. You can see a picture of one at http://www.eaglesup.com/trt.html

6) Whatever else you can think of!

Like I've said earlier, I've never handled anything like this before, and could sure use a hand, suggestions, whatever!

I don't live in Kalifornia, but I want to help. Let me and others know who to write and what else we can do from the outside. We need TRT in each state but let's not make the mistake of spreading the resources too thin. I simply mean that this should be concerted effort by all concerned and not pit one group against another. Let' do it.

Where DO you live, FNG?

Are you willing to pick up the ball and run with it where you are? There's help available in the form of advice and encouragement, but SOMEONE where you are (hint: LOOK IN THE MIRROR) has to be first.

My advice: Jump in, feet first.

Post the TRT web page (http://www.eaglesup.com/trt.html) everywhere in your state that you can find a spot to do so.

Buy yourself a t-shirt and wear it from time to time.

This thing will only happen if we each look at this as a personal fight, because it is.

I'm in. Just heard about your site. We definitely need to get organized. This thing in MA is really a wakeup call. It appears tyranny is here. Let's see if the process works. I just saw this thread, sorry I'm late.

Regards,

Olazul

TRT CALIFORNIA-

AS you get going and get your group
larger; you need two one for Sacremento-
SF area and one for LA-SD area. There
is so many meetings,speeches,etc by
the antis, you could get to them all much
better with two groups. Also get as many
Videos as you have cameras to do it with,
and get them to us, Shooting Express TV.
WE will get them on our shows and Johnny
Rowlands show. Getting radio stations is
what made it work well in CO.

Very, very good, Joe. We in CO are so proud!

Folks, Joe & buds have busted their butts to take this effort from nothing to this in, what Joe? two months? & not too many busier than Joe is .... & where else is it need more (or as much) than in Kalifornicated? Maybe Conn, Mass, NJ, ... ?

Either YOU make it happen where you are or you sit back & watch those that do. BIG problem, lots of those who "make it happen" ain't on our side.

Up to you. 'Course, it always was.

Just off the phone with Joe & it is really amazing what he's/they've (to not snub the folks I'm not aware of) accomplished in so short a time.

Folks, this is exactly what we should be doing. Not neccessarily TRT (call it anything you want & go after the guv thugs for whatever reason/s you like - doesn't even have to be 2nd Amend issues) - but just get up & do it.

Most of you have probably heard about the so-called Million Mom March
which is set to take place simultaneously in many US cities on
Mothers Day May 14, 2000. This march is another avenue for the
liberals to attack the 2nd Amendment. It has already gotten a lot of
press coverage. I'm certain the media will once again use this march
on Mother's Day to further their radical anti-American agenda.

The Second Amendment Sisters have been organizing a counter-march.
Predictably the media has not gone out of their way to cover the
"right" side of this story as usual. Also the SAS haven't had the
means to reach a lot of media sources as of yet. I have proposed to
do a mailing for them. My wife and I will mail as many press releases
as we can afford to. We will concentrate first in New England and the
DC area as the main march will occur in Washington D.C. I have
addresses of every broadcast and print media source in the entire
United States (approx. 50,000). At this point the mail will have to
go 1st class. This equates to approx. 3000 media contacts per $1000
for postage. I will kick in $500 and all of the labor.

I feel it is imperative that SAS has a good showing.

CAN YOU PLEASE DONATE WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD TO HELP WITH THIS MAILING.
PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL IMMEDIATELY. I hope to get this in the
mail on Monday. Please don't hesitate.

SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS READY TO MARCH ON WASHINGTON

DALLAS, TEXAS - Second Amendment Sisters, Inc., is pleased to
announce that Texas State Representative Suzanna Gratia-Hupp will be
the keynote speaker at their Armed Informed Mothers' March (A.I.M.M.)
on Sunday, May 14, 2000 in Washington DC.

The event will begin at 9 AM at the northwest quadrant of the
Washington Monument. In addition to Ms. Hupp, the rally will feature
speeches by Larry Klayman, Chairman of Judicial Watch, and women from
across the country who represent the 2.5 million people whose lives
are saved by guns every year. It will conclude with a march to the
Capitol Building.

Representative Suzanna Gratia-Hupp, a leading proponent for the right
of citizens to carry concealed weapons, became involved in Second
Amendment issues in 1991. She was a patron in a Killeen, Texas
restaurant when an armed man entered and began shooting, killing
twenty-one people including Ms. Hupp's parents. She believes that had
law allowed her to carry her legally owned sidearm into the
restaurant, she would have been able to stop the man because she had
a clear shot at him from a distance of less than 5 yards.

Second Amendment Sisters Inc. is a grass-root self-defense and
safety-education advocacy group based in Dallas. Its founders are
five women from five different states who were tired of the
stereotypical portrayals of gun owners and the erosion of personal
freedoms.

"We all own firearms or know someone who does. I used one to save my
life from an attacker," said Debra Collins, Colorado State
Coordinator for SAS. "The anti-gun factions constantly say if it
saves on life it's worth it. Well my firearm saved one life - mine -
and I promise you my mother thinks it was worth it."

Recent research has shown that in jurisdictions where strict gun
control measures are in effect, the result is almost always that GUN
CONTROL INCREASES VIOLENT CRIME, by shifting the balance of power to
favor criminals and disarming helpless victims. This is why SAS
opposes measures such as legislation that would make trigger locks
mandatory with every handgun purchase, as well as licensing and
registration of guns and gun owners.

"We already know that licensing and registration will be
counterproductive because the U.S. Supreme Court (Haynes v. U.S., 390
US 85, 1968) has unequivocally ruled that criminals cannot be legally
required to register their firearms, and they cannot be convicted for
possessing an unregistered firearm. It makes no sense at all to enact
laws that can only be used to convict previously law-abiding citizens
while criminals get a free pass. It is time to start enforcing the
existing violent crime laws, rather than wasting taxpayer money on
harassment and punishment of non-violent firearms owners. It is time
for the media and the politicians to help people who want to defend
themselves against crime, rather than passing laws that only help the
criminals. " said SAS co-founder Kim Watson.

Second Amendment Sisters supports the extremely successful firearms
safety education programs that have been developed by firearms owner
groups and have been available to firearms owners for decades. Safety
programs sponsored by national and local clubs and organizations have
been responsible for a nearly 50% decline in the number of children's
shooting accidents over the last 25 years, despite increases in
population and number of guns in circulation.

A six-year study done at Johns Hopkins University found that the
majority of children aged 0-14 died as a result of "other causes"
(35.3%). Next were vehicle occupant (17.0%) and drowning (13.4%),
while accidental shootings ranked lowest, at 2.9%.

Hello, TRT'ers!

Well, if today's effort in showing support for the San Diego (Del
Mar, actually) "Crossroads of the West" gunshow is any indication, we
are well on our way to being a success here in the PRK! Here is my
report of events as I saw them:

The Board meeting was scheduled at 2 PM, I got there at 1:30, and
there were already about thirty people there, holding signs and a
couple of Colorado TRT-Shirts visible. More and more folks showed as
the 2 PM meeting time approached, and one TRT'er down here had the
brilliant idea of having 100 3" TRT buttons made up. This was a
great idea, because many of us were dressed up with ties and coats,
but with the buttons we could still be ID'd as part of the TRT.
Everyone was wearing them! And as soon as we broke out the box of CA
TRT-Shirts, those went fast and some folks switched shirts and put
them on.

The meeting started to an absolutely packed room -- I'd say there was
at least sixty, maybe seventy people in there, plus another twenty or
thirty outside still carrying signs. Bottom line, we outnumbered the
antis at least fifteen or twenty to one -- boy, were they surprised
and sulky!

Meanwhile, I stayed outside since the room was crammed, and ended up
being interviewed by a woman reporter from KFMB Channel 8 TV news, as
well as a Metro reporter from the San Diego Union-Tribune, and our
little event actually made the 4 PM TV news -- they did an OK job of
presenting the affair, I got in a good fifteen-second sound bite, and
they had lots of close-ups of our signs and attendees, both outside
with signs as well as inside giving their views. Of course, KFMB
also interviewed the main freedom-hater, who I had previouslyu termed
a "small vocal minority" in my fifteen seconds of fame -- but
overall, we were treated OK. It was interesting to note that, though
there were TRT-Shirts in the crowd and EVERYONE had those TRT buttons
on, all the camera shots purposefully excluded this. We'll see what
the SD Union does with my comments later, I suppose. But it was
great to be able to speak the truth straight from the heart to the
media -- and if things go according to plan, they are going to be
interviewing a lot more of us TRT'ers as time goes on!

The meeting was over in about an hour, I guess, and we made sure that
everyone there had info about Sunday's counter-MMM rally in San
Diego. Overall, we stomped 'em! The board was pretty much behind us
anyway, and those antis had all the look of not expecting to be
confronted much, if at all, only to be caught completely off-guard by
the opposition. Next time, they'll probably bring more friends, and
so will we. $:-)

This event is proof that this TRT concept CAN and WILL work -- I can
hardly wait until Sunday, although next time I better remember the
sunscreen!

Good luck and Godspeed to us all this Sunday!

- Joe Brower
