I think they are $1 gold pieces, wasn't looking at them that close was more into the gun, if I could swing the $$$ I would buy it and sell the grips to recoup my money, I want the pistol to carry and shoot :)

Gold is over 1000 bucks an ounce now days.

As for the gun, re-nickeled? See S&W NEVER made nickeled hammers or triggers.

the hammer is just polished a little not plated, as for the trigger that shiny piece is a Tyler Trigger Shoe fastened to the Stock trigger.
 
Before going all eager over the gold coins (if that is what they are and not gold plated medallions), value of coins varies a lot based on condition (like guns) and coins that have been set into grips for perhaps a century might not be in the best shape or have their full weight.
