trigger finger reach issues

Corey,

Thanks for your thoughtful post. Sorry to hear about the accident. But more to the point you're right about both of us having that issue despite my being born with the shorter finger. It sucks plain and simple to be so limited in weapon choices. That said, in the grand scope of things, I'm still kicking as a heart attack survivor and am eligible to collect social security this year. Yeah, things could be far worse.

I've eschewed "tupperware" pistols up to this point. Glocks feel like crap in my hand not that I can reach the trigger anyhow. The XDm allows me to get there but its not available in 45ACP yet as far as I know. Haven't handled the S&W M&P, H&K HK45C or any of the other myriad polymer numbers out there. I really haven't made the effort simply because most all are blocky with fat grips and long trigger reaches. As noted above the Kahr PM45 surprised me today with its feel but it still impresses me like a $500 gun and not one commensurate with the much higher asking price. Another strike is the 3.14" barrel which I consider a tad too short for decent 45 acp performance.

You mentioned your Witness. Years ago I tried the CZ and Tangofolio 9mms and found that yet again the trigger was too far for me to adequately control. That EAA is essentially the same pattern. Basically it seems that most all weapons with a DA or DA/SA trigger fail to ergonomically work for me. That doesn't mean I still don't keep looking. :)

I have the same problem, short fingers, small hands. I've owned a sig 226 & even the short trigger didn't work for me. My 1911 & Hi power are OK. I have a Kahr K9 that fits the best.
I recently bought the M&P 9 & I like the fit. I use the small backstrap which is simple to install. Shoots great too.

I'm 5' 7" and have the short finger too. I have to stick with J frames as GP100's and S&W 686's are a tad long in the reach. On 1911's I need the thin grips.

All's I can say is don't buy a gun unless you've actually put your hands on it in the actual configuration you'll own and never settle for a trigger LOP (lenght of pull) that is right on the boarder of being too long. You'll regret it. Don't ask me how I know!

Repeat, no matter how much you love a gun....

A wise man has to know his limitations!

God Bless

I don't see that much of a difference between the standard & short trigger on the 226. How much is the difference.

The difference doesn't seem significant by looking at it...until you try it for yourself. Then you'll feel the difference and it seems as big as a mile.

I just got my Guns & Ammo HANDGUNS (Feb/March 2009) in the mail yesterday and there is an interesting article that might help. It's called "The Right Fit" and it seems to address allot of your concerns!

Anyone know of a shortened "length of pull" option for a CZ75B?

With the hammer cocked it is good, but in DA mode I have to shift my grip a little. The trigger is also very smooth, so the end of my trigger finger has trouble gripping it. I thought about trying to find a smith to groove the trigger.

I am interested in finding out if there is any kind of custom work or trigger replacement that might help.
