Tried to like my P250C

I bought a Sig P250C in 9mm earlier this year. I think it was more of an impulse buy. Local dealer had them on sale and I picked it up. I had never really been a semi-auto guy. Had mostly used revolvers out of old habits so I think I was a little uninformed on what to look for.

I thought I would learn to like it, but the truth is I have never gotten fond of long trigger pull and I found it was hard to hold on target for double taps or any kind of rapid fire. For what ever reasons, I have found I just don't enjoy shooting it like some other handguns. I think there is also something to the high axis recoil others have commented about so it is difficult to keep on target. I am much more accurate with my 38 & 357 revolvers.

I have a Beretta M92 in transit so I have not given up on trying another auto. I don't CC so the size was not really a priority to me. I just wanted to try something that is a lot different from what I have and wanted an all metal gun this time, with a longer sight radius. I have pretty large hands and I think the Beretta will be a better fit for me. I guess that's why handguns come in so many flavors.

practice

Practice and dry fire a lot. The P250 is an outstanding firearm.

A marvel of engineering, The double taps will come, the DAO trigger is the best out there, give it some time you will be glad you did.

I think you should give it some more time, unless DAO isn't your preference. For DAO, it's tough to beat as a self defense gun. It's not a target gun.

In today's world with sooo many options why shoot something you don't like?

Sell it trade it. Use the money toward your new Beretta or something else. The P250 is a less than stellar Sig. I gave up on mine in less than a year. No regrets too many great guns out there to settle for an avg one IMHO.

Agreed on all points.

Just got a new P250 subcompact in 9. I love this gun. Best DAO trigger around.

I am a DA revolver biased shooter and I transitioned to the P250 (mine is .45 ACP) very smoothly. This was due mostly to the fact that I shoot my DA revolvers, DA.

The DOA trigger does not feel the same as say my GP100, but it is relatively light and the pull is consistent all the way to let-off. The trigger pull also seems shorter than any of my DA revolvers.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the impedus in large part of developing the DAO semi-auto was to help revolver shooters make the transition to the platform?

I'm a revolver guy but also like my Glocks. I bought a 250SC about 2 years ago. Felt it was a good deal for the price at the time ($350). Tried to like it but felt that while the trigger pull was smooth, it was too long and thought the reset was a bit "weak". It didn't do anything better than my G19s so I sold it.

I think you have pretty well summed it up for your personal preference. Therefore, I would suggest you go ahead and part with this one and find a handgun you prefer.

I have three and 1/2 Sig P250's and am willing to pick-up another one if some of you would like to part with yours at a bargain price.

I had a similar experience. I got one when they were really, really, cheap and tried to like it but in the end it just wasn't for me.

Luckily the price went up in the mean time and I ended up getting what I paid for it and turned it into a Glock 21.

I'm happier with the Glock, guy I sold the SIG to loves it.

Everyone won.

I recently purchased a nib p250c 9mm for a stupid low price. Wouldn't have gotten it except at $225 I couldn't turn it down.
I can see why people who are not familiar with a long DA trigger would dislike the trigger on the p250. It does have a long pull, but the trigger is very smooth and relatively light.

My first impressions after a range session as compared to a g19

Things I like about it

Smooth trigger
Modular
Frame rails are substantial and not molded into the polymer frame
Tight frame/slide fit, very little vertical slop.
Nicely machined slide for a budget gun
Grip is pretty ergonomic, much better than a g19
Pretty good sights
Magazine release is easy to reach and press without changing my grip

Things I don't like about it
High bore axis.
Bigger in almost all dimensions than a g19.
Magazines are expensive
Muzzle flip more pronounced than a g19
Not as concealable as a g19
Long trigger reset

I didn't get to formally accuracy test the p250, but informally it felt accurate. I can fire the g19 slightly faster with better accuracy though, due to the shorter trigger and lower bore axis.

It seems to me that if you want a DA only auto, a second gen p250 is a good choice. If you are looking for an auto in general, there are better choices in the $300-$400 price range a p250 usually sells for.

P250

Safestuffer,
I had had my P250 for nearly a year now and I think your assessment of likes and dislikes would line up well with my experience. It is a very reliable shooter but I have just never become fond of it. I am a little embarrassed about how much better I like my Beretta M92S. I guess that's why they come in so many flavors. People's likes can vary quite a bit.

I have a P250C in .40 cal. No issues or problems with it, what-so-ever.

It does take some time to get used to a DAO semi-auto. They are different for a reason. Take some time and learn to stage the trigger. That will help a lot.

I have huge hands (I wear a XXXL glove) so a lot of handguns feel small or uncomfortable in my hands.

One thing I learned while in the military. You don't adapt a firearm to you, you adapt to the firearm. I've never forgotten that. It seems like a lot of people change out the grips, sights, springs, or whatever, to make it feel right. That's all good and well if you don't mind spending the $$'s, time and effort.

For me, because of my hands, it's all moot. I do my best to adapt to the gun in my hands at the time. 99 times out of 100, I can do it well enough to hit what I'm aiming at.

Safestuffer,

I have never tried a P250, but I like the concept, and like Sig in general. I'm curious what you consider better at this price point? Your likes and dislikes are exactly how I think I'm feeling about the P250. And sub $400 is tempting.

Gene,
For what I paid, very little would beat a p250c for $270 out the door after shipping and FFL fees, as far as bang for the buck.

At the msrp of the p250c at $400, unless you were specifically looking for a DAO, I would look elsewhere though...my tendencies would be to go to an auction site and look for something used in that price range. I have picked up several guns in that price range at auction that so far I like better than the p250c.
I'd rather have a used g19, a used cz75b, a zasteva EZ9, a used beretta 92f, or even one of the $300 92s's available online right now.
Basically anything quality that has a real hammer or striker.

That's not saying anything negative about the p250, its a good gun but I would just rather have a striker than a DAO hammer if I'm going to go that route, and I like hammer spurs.
I'm also addicted to buying guns at auction for less than they should be.
As much as I like the modularity, I will likely never buy any other configurations, preferring to just buy another gun...so that is something I have no value for that could be a big deal for someone else.

New guns...I'd go with a good cz clone for under $400...or a RIA.
