Tried to convince the wife it was a fridge...

I ordered a good sized gun safe last week and it showed up last night. I finally decided to get one after I realized all my desk drawers were full of handguns. I could nolonger get the calculator or the stapler out without pushing a gun aside.
My wife saw the truck out the window and came out to my office to see who was stopping by. The guys almost dropped it when they heard me try to convince her it was a black refrigerator. But shes no dummy and knew what I was up to. I was basically in the hot seat for not "discussing" the purchase with her 'before' I did it.
I didn't mind the 'discussion so much because now I can bring home whatever I want and hide ...I mean secure it , in the fridge...LMAO.

Anyone else ever resort to sneaking the new item into the house because the 5 ft 2 inch 110 lb woman was just too scary to deal with? I'm only 6 ft 2, 240 lbs and I don't know if I could take her or not.

Nope.

Our couch is comfy, but not that comfy. Call me whipped, but I still enjoy the company of my wife like it was the first year we were married. I run EVERYTHING by her. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have the funds to have the things we have. She knows how to budget and be smart with our money and when it's OK to splurge. The very least I can do is give her the respect of including her in on what I would like to buy.

But I didn't whine...too much...when she picked out her 25th anniversary diamond. :D and that thing was huuuuuuge.

I told her I wouldn't count her shoes if she didn't count my guns...didn't work either.

If I were ever going to sneak anything in the house, I can absolutely guarantee that it would be something smaller than a black fridge. What, exactly, did you expect to do when she needs more space for the Jell-O salad she makes for Thanksgiving?

She can put the jello mold in the Man-fridge in the garage.

I thought about calling it an oven but I was afraid she might try to light it...fire and ammo don't mix well.

My arguement on my little hobby has always been...
...If the bills are paid, the savings is growing, the retirement plan is expanding, and she gets her allowance....then where is the harm?
She is Japanese and just doesn't understand the importance or sheer fun of my hobby. Her society simply has no need for the people to self-arm or to protect themselves and she wasn't raised around guns of any kind.

But then again we have made it thru many years and disagreements and i look forward to many many more "discussions".

Well, its time for bed...goodnight folks.

It's still kind of a bad show to fib to the Wife. The right hand should not deceive the left hand. It sets a bad precedent and creates doubt where there should be none. There are alternatives to lying to get what you want.

I make it a point to not lie to her even if what I say may be disturbing to her, in this way at least she can count on what comes out of my mouth as truth. There is an upside to it, she bought me an AR15, an M1A, and a FA mdl 83...I must be doing something right. She didn't balk when it was time for a safe. She knows how much things are worth.

Now she gets a free lie to you...;)

"I told her I wouldn't count her shoes if she didn't count my guns..."

That's a good one!

I think the forgivness route in these matters is always better than the permission route. You just went a little off track with the fridge idea...

Nope. Don't have to do that. If I see something I would like to have ,call her ask if we are good on money if yes I buy if no I don't. Only have been told no once and she was right we were short at the time.
I am real glad I met and married me wife. She's a real keeper. :D:D:D

Am pretty sure the wife sneaks in her hobby stuff too. I used to worry about it, but we have learned to trust that if we have the extra $, and we are not shirking any responsibilities, then go for it.

I used to use the 24 hour rule: If you sneak a new toy/ tool/ guitar into the house successfully and it remains there in "plain sight" for 24 hours, you get to say "Oh, that's been there for a long time".

No kids means more hobbies.

Mr Dish ... I'd be better off if I just copped to the gun safe to start with. Hell, If I told her it was a refrigerator ... I'd get yelled at for the beer and ice cream she'd suspect I was keeping in it.

Some days ya' just can't win!:D

No need to sneak, I married a conservative-southern woman who likes guns more than I..

..although she may ask for her very own (vault) though :)

Dish, I am 6'5 and 250 when I am not fat;) and I definitely couldn't taken my ex-wife when she is on a roll:D

Checking first with the lady is always a good idea.

But, my lady and I made an agreement when we were married. I don't count shoes, she doesn't count rifles.

My first wife was a gun-counter and it became a bone of contention on many occasions. When she decided to leave, I waved bye-bye from the door, knowing that my (albeit sparse) collection was safe from her prying eyes.

After several years, I met my new love and one of those things we decided early in the relationship was that I don't count shoes, she doesn't count rifles.

I am indeed blessed and intend to stay with her as long as she'll have me.

Hahahahahs. A fridge though? Pretty quick with that one. My ex was the type that could spend the money because her things were more important. Mine were just ridiculous. My hobbies include softball and fishing as well as shooting and eventually hunting again. I would have to save my "allowance" money to get my toys. I still heard alot of flak. Boy am I glad she is gone. I can have my toys and still save more than when she was around. Something wrong with that picture? I guess the Mani and Pedi.and spa treatments were "important". They just don't make them like Mama. Not this day in age. But then again I'm 26. :D

Who's the boss

I hide nothing. I wear the pants around here and what I say goes..If I say its gonna happen by god __________________.. Gotta run, wife just got home

Nuclear winter

This runs down the same line as the Mr. Dish's Refrigerator
The moral of this story : Talk everything over with your better half, it's not the gun or the price, it's the respect.
Not many years into our marriage, I Tried to sneak a newly purchased Browning under the bed with the rest of my rifles, (as I did not have a safe then.) but it would not fit under there with all her craft boxes... As I exit, after stashing one of my older rifles behind her wedding dress in the closet to make room, there she was sitting on the end of the bed.....(for a woman who can make so much noise when I'm watching my shows, she was very stealthy...) "SO YOU BOUGHT ANOTHER GUN" ( more statement then a question )... yes mam.....but it was such a good deal....Needless to say she overpowered me with " I'M SO DISAPPOINTED WITH YOU, YOU DIDN'T TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS." and it was at that exact moment I felt the chill, and for three day's it just got colder. On the third day, I went to give her a hug while she was doing dishes, she gave me a shrug and "THAT LOOK," to which I replied " Is cold in here or is it just you?" She started to laugh and I new then I was out of the dog house.
We made a pact that we would talk about matters before we acted on them, ( except for her shoes) Hope this helps,

Okay, I understand (sort of) the chill about buying a new gun from a wife who wasn't raised in this culture and doesn't "get it" when it comes to gun ownership at all.

But purchasing a safe is an absolute NO BRAINER even when you make the case to someone who's basically against gun ownership in the first place. "Look, honey, I do own guns and aren't you tired of tripping over them?"

"Look, honey, I do own guns and this lets me get them out of sight so that none of your friends will ever see them..."

"Look, honey, I down own guns and this lets me lock them up so that no children (friends' kids, kids or grandkids, neighbors' kids, etc etc) can possibly get ahold of them. It's for safety."

As I said, no brainer. Easy argument. And it's not as if you're looking at something easy to hide, like a new handgun. It's the size of a refrigerator, for crying out loud! :D :D

For the rest? I feel sorry for anyone who feels as if they need to lie to the person closest to them. That's no way to live.

One: Lying almost always comes back to bite you.

Two: Get her into an expensive hobby of her own. My lady is into English saddle riding: dressage, fox hunting, three day eventing. Compared to horse expenses, my gun hobby is cheap.

IE, she doesn't say boo about guns, reloading gear, etc.

Edit: nor do I hide them from her.
