Tribute to the Star BM9

I recently got a BM9 off gunbroker, & it is a hoot to shoot. I rounded up two extra mags - had to do a little fine tuning on those. I will say mine likes to run wet; I hadn't relubricated after fiddling with the new mags (took off the slide a few times), and had FTF & FTE till I oiled it up.

[BillDS, I'll be saving your email -- I should probably get a spare firing pin just in case.]

The firing pins will break if the guns are dry-fired.

I use snap caps....:)

I think Wolff has recoil springs for the BM9 at a good price, other parts are more expensive. So much so that buying a parts gun makes more sense.

Original mags are now quite pricey it seems, were the extra mags you bought aftermarket types?, hence the need for fine tuning?

Yes, the extra mags I got were aftermarket & were tight in the mag well and the mag catch hole was flared a hair. Took some filing and 1000 grit sanding to get to near-drop-free condition. Sorry I can't tell you the maker- got them off gunbroker also. They were still pricey but well under original mags - worth some hand fitting.

Sixgunluv, I think that bottom photo is of one of my BM's better go look to see if it is hiding in the safe :) I have a half dozen or more of these neat little pistols and shoot one quite often because they are the right size, feel and accuracy one would want in a medium sized pistol....and just fun to shoot as well.

BM9

Sorry Bill, i've been calling it the BM9, otherwise some people assume it has something to do with a bodily function.

All this is tempting me to carry this one again:

It fits fine in a Don Hume JIT slide (as does my M40, as well).

I have the A70 but not a BM9. Which is thinner? Which is heavier? Been considering the BM9 lately. I do agree that the A70 is about the best all steel, single stack, SA you can find for carry. Beveled mag well, checked front and back straps, well formed grip, etc. And if you want DA/SA, just get the A75!

Mine is due for a hard chroming. My wife had my FEG Hi Power done for me for Christmas. Guess what this years gift will be!

I picked up a BKM a few years ago from a guy who just had no use for it. I won't tell you what I paid, but let's just say it was a once in a lifetime offer. I gave it to my gal as her first gun and she is absolutely deadly with it, which is no small feat considering the large but useless (to me) sights. I think it's a great gun. It's very accurate at the close distances we've tested it and the fit and finish are generally outstanding for the age. Being an aluminum frame variant, I will tell you that it is incredibly light.

The Sig 938 will definitely be a smaller gun with a grip more appropriate for concealed carry. That being said, the BKM is extremely pleasant to shoot... so there's that.

daltechforce.com makes custom holsters for the Star BM9/Astra A 70. I had one made with retention strap. Upper left is the standard/non custom which i found works just as well for the BM9/A-70

I have a Star BKS with box and papers. The blue plastic box is slightly fractured.
Major George Nonte wrote an article called "Dos Pistolas Espanolas" about Spanish pistols many years ago. He had high praise for the Star BKM and BKS.
Mine is a late production with an improved firing pin. It has a retractable firing pin that I think was missing from the early pistols. I wish I still had the article.
I'm not sure when it was made but the serial number is well over 1,000,000.

I really love Spanish pistols!!

I almost bought an A70 once. If I was allowed anything other than condition 3 carry over here, I'd have bought it as a carry piece in a flash. For the reason above, a revolver makes more sense. Got me a Spanish one!!

All together i have about eighty Star pistols including BM and BKM's. I shoot all of them (except for a few with historical background) and enjoy the smaller ones (model D & DK) in 380 the best. These are well made and fun to shoot pistols no matter the caliber, one of my Model A pistols is Spanish AF issue number: 00004 and still shoots like new although it looks well used.

I've bought two Star BMs.

One I gave to a close friend, and the other one I need to get reassembled. Really like the size and weight of it.
