Traveling to California

I would like someone to show me the PC that requires ammo and weapon to be separated. Can't be in chamber or well but I can find nothing that says the gun and ammo to be separated.

I don't believe anyone can. What Gary posted only mentions that a police officer can inspect it to see if its loaded but doesn't say anything about transportation of gun and ammo must be separated.

The following is taken directly from the California highway Patrols website

I will be traveling to California and want to carry my weapon. I currently have a concealed weapon permit. How can I legally transport my weapon while driving through the state?

California law does not recognize concealed weapon permits from other states; therefore, they would not be held valid. If you wish to transport a handgun during your California visit, it should be carried unloaded in a locked container. In the absence of a suitable container, you may secure the unloaded handgun in the locked trunk of a passenger car. Ammunition may be kept in the same container or trunk, but the handgun must remain unloaded with no rounds in the cylinder and no loaded magazines in the magazine well.

In response to #17 above: SF apparently clarified the ban is on Black Talon ammunition only after a recent NRA challenge but this is a city with total anti-gun substructure...they even banned the "Happy Meal"

Oh, almost forgot: Hollow point ammunition is illegal in San Francisco.

It's not illegal in SF, although I can see how one might get that impression. In early 2013 SF passed a law specifically banning Black Talon ammo, despite the fact that Black Talon had been out of production for 20 years. The law applies to BT ammo only, hollow points per se are not banned.

Some SF supervisors touted this law as a ban on all hollow point ammo, but as usual they had no idea what they were talking about.

Travel; airlines...

I'm going on a extended business trip this Wed; Nov 06, 2013.
I'm going to take my M&P .45acp compact & 2 unloaded magazines.
I checked the TSA site & spoke to a customer service specialist who told me the pistol just needs to be unloaded, in a hard side case, with a security lock(does not need to be a TSA lock). I'll declare the firearm when I check in & get my boarding pass/ticket. ;)

I'm going to a state where my CCW is valid & open carry is allowed.
I might open carry depending on the weather & where I'm working(mostly outdoors in rural areas). I plan to buy a 20/25rd box of carry type .45acp, like Winchester PDX1 or Speer Gold Dot 230gr +P JHP.

I might do some target shooting too but my trips end being 12/16 hour days. :(
