Trap/Skeet/Sporting Clay: ear protection?

Not saying you're wrong - guess the audiologist who gave me an employment hearing test had his nomenclature wrong

To any new shooters I do highly suggest ear protection. I suffer very noticeable hearing loss and ringing in my ears 100% of every moment. It was not just gun induced... I love the loud pipes of bikes and dragster motors as well as shooting guns...

Mine started with Jimi Hendrix at volume 9 and headphones.......... I've always worn hearing protection when shooting, while the muffs are bulkier, I find they dampen the noise, especially from ported shotguns much better than foam plugs or silicone inserts alone

then again, JMO, YMMV

It's can be easy to make a mistake with plugs and leave a gap that lets in sound. Check this by cupping your ears after insertion, if your hands attenuate sound then the plugs are not doing their job. I prefer muffs, bulkier but basically impossible to screw up.
