Transfer fee.

Most places around me are $40.

The shop I use most of the time has two prices, depending on where you bought the gun. They charge $20 if you are buying it from an individual and $40 if you are buying from an online dealer/auction/straight from factory.

I assume this is to encourage you to buy the gun from them with the higher fees paid for buying from another dealer. It is certainly nice that they charge 1/2 when buying from an individual as they recognize that not all guns can be bought factory new.

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy charges $20.00,,,

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy charges $20.00,,,
I think that's a nice round number,,,
I don't mind paying that at all.

I recently transferred a gun to a friend in California,,,
The gun shop he used charged him $75.00,,,
That's highway robbery for certain.

I pay 20 per shipment whether its one gun or six. Some of the other local places charge 25-35. One place in the next town charges 65.

AFAIK both CT and CA require state gun dealer licenses, and have somewhat onerous state paperwork requirements. This is not the case in the OP's home state of OK. :)

The gun smith I use charges $20.00 and a pawn shop down the road charges $30.00

And FrankenMauser if that 1B is the first two of your license plate I know were your at:) Don't worry I don't have a 1J on my plate.

Well now, under what circumstances? I know that if I buy from a dealer, at his price, there is no charge for the transfer. I also understand that some dealers do charge for the transfer, even though you bought from them. ...

All transfers are free regardless of where they came from. I understand the reasoning, hoping that people will buy something while they are there but that is rarely the case.

My local gun shop (dudes basement, decent set up but not a separate building) charges $35 bucks, and $25 for everyone after that if you have more than one in a shipment. So 5 lowers would be $135 dollars.....

There is a strictly muzzleloader shop 15 miles away run by an old man that charges $25 bucks for everything. So when I order 5 lowers its only $25 bucks or $5 per lower. He gets all my business......

One newer shop charges $15. I think they are trying to attract people to the store. All others $30+. I have heard there is one that is $50, but I think someone confused an NFA transfer fee or something. I don't go to that shop anyways.
It seems ATFE has chased off all the "kitchen table" guys in my area and the transfer price seems to have skyrocketed as a result. Retail stores can't succeed off of transfers.

The most local shop near me charges $50, but he doesn't have much inventory. I think he's in it for the hobby. The larger gun shop 1/2 hr away charges $70! for the 1st gun & $25 for the next. (I think if you buy from him there's no charge but he charges a few $ for the NICS fee.) A kitchen table FFL I found about 20 mins away charges $40 (don't know about additional guns.)

There's a local gunsmith that doesn't do transfers. Can any of you 'smiths here confirm if he's not allowed? Or he just doesn't want the headache.
