TRAITOR

"Never appeal to man's better nature: he might not have one. Appeal to his self-interest instead."

When you mouth off to an enemy, you might feel better for a minute...but when you explain that the problem is theirs as well as yours, you have a chance to convert to our cause. Consider restraint and subtle counsel in the future.

His self interest seemed to be his
holy job.
But this is exactly what I was asking long path for examples on, please give me some good idea's on how I should help educate such a possibly confused individual about the importance of civillians rights and lives
over the importance of his sworn duty to the ever sacred to him law and superior officer
who to him is HIS COUNTRY.
Ever notice how quickly some in the armed service especially the brass Ill mind you
seem to forget the common man when it comes to serving 'his country' and suddenly the
government pentagon/senate/whitehouse's interests become the 'countrie's' best interest.
But I guess Im again hopping subjects when it comes to that one.
Ive met a number of my local deputies who seem to love to help people and like treating them like neighbors so again I dont think everyone of them has this fella's attitude.
Pherphaps it would have been better to end the original post with the question 'What do we do when we start getting LEO's who do have this attitude'assuming this was his attitude.
I also agree I should have probed him more but not exactly appearing to be a first year rookie I had the feeling he knew what I was referring to and what he was implying.

I tend to like the firm congratulation approach, implying that refusal would be subject to disdain: "But of course YOU wouldn't support the elitism that only some cops should be allowed to have such things, to the exclusion of the good law-abiding citizenry."

Or simply expressing your mind in a way he may never have considered: "How sad that good people that are certainly as morrally straight as a peace officer do not have access to such tools, simply because of their decision to have a different carreer."

"I grant YOU the trust that you won't do anything terrible with that equipment, and I've never met you. Why would you not extend the same trust to me, even after a background check?"

"It's sad, isn't it, that your offspring could not inherit that item unless they're active-duty LEO's as well?"

There's all kinds of statements that can be made, some with hard jabbs installed, but without making OPEN INSULTS.

The idea is to get the man to THINK!
