Trading guns at a gun show ???

Stress - The LGS around here sell M&P 15 Sports and Bushmaster (the entry level) anywhere from $599-$699. Even if I were to squeeze $450-500 from the BHP I dont see where that is

far from a straight swap

What I meant is that as opposed to simply selling a gun from their table for $X and making a profit on 1 gun, when trades are taken in exchange - they will usually try to make a profit from both. I.E. paying low (or giving a low discount) for your gun and then reselling it higher.

Thus why dealer prices are always so high and yet offers on trades is always so low by comparison. My understanding of gun-onomics, anyways

IMO, you would be better served selling to a show-goer unless, of course, you do get a very good offer from a dealer

Hansam .....I placed a call to my favorite LGS and they told me they can get me a brand new BHP Silver Chrome 9mm for $800 + tax. That's retail from an LGS.
Odd.....considering Browning hasn't imported a Silver Chrome model since the early-mid nineties.

Please pass on the name and phone number of this gun store.....thats a great deal on a NIB Silver Chrome.

DogTown... you are completely right. This sale at GB just closed at $925

Now granted that gun that sold is a couple years newer than mine but aside from the manual both guns are in identical condition. I watched this auction for the last couple of days and before the buy it now was used it had a bid of $700 on it.

Going to try the gun show tomorrow and see what comes up but it looks like my asking price of $550 trade from a dealer is NO WHERE near out of line.

Thanks,

Mark

I'd offer it for sale on one of the gun auctions. The advantage there is clear: if there's no market in your area for this particular HP, there are other cities and areas where it may be very scarce and desirable. A listing on an internet auction site goes to literally millions of potential buyers, not just a single dealer in your area who may sell a lot more tupperware guns than High Powers. You need to find that guy who's been lusting after this model and can't find one locally.

Another note on auction prices. Very often someone will bid on a gun at auction, and then someone else bids, and the first bidder feels like "Well that's MY GUN you're trying to steal", and then the fun begins. It's not at all uncommon to see guns going for way more then the Blue Book value. That's a definite plus for the seller, not so much for the buyer.

Dogtown Tom,

Check pms for the answer to your request above.

I'd have answered sooner but I'm out camping and the free wifi provided here is about as reliable as Obama's transparency promise.

Anyway I'm relaying what I was told on the phone by a source I trust and what I'm finding in this year's edition of a values book (Blue Book for Gun Values).

As I said before if you can sell it for more then power to you. Otherwise that's what I'd sell one for if I had it and didn't want it. Of course I'm not in the market for a BHP so it doesn't matter to me.
