Trade 1911 for Glock?

You clearly like both Glocks and 1911s, so quit losing money trading back and forth and buy (and keep) one of each.

I've heard some things about 1911's. "They're not reliable, they need a ton of maintenance, they'll go full-auto on you!" etc, etc.

What has your experience been with your 1911s? Nevertheless, 1911s are not reliable ... if you use junk magazines, don't give them a little lubrication, and Bubba them with cheap after-market parts from a dozen different makers.

As others have recommended, try to buy the right gun in the first place then hang on to it! Repeat that process as needed. When shopping for a new gun don't buy the first thing you see, handle many and buy few. 50-1 or 100-1 handle vs. buy ratio! In time you'll have a few good guns you're happy with. Or more than a few.

So keep the 1911 you have and get out there now and handle G19s, in Gen 3 and Gen 4 versions, in black and FDE and the new color. Get the right one for you and keep it, else you'll be trading Glock for Glock next.

Keep what you have, take some time to decide what you want while you save up some $, then get that.

If you end up being a "gun person" then a 1911 in .45, a Glock, a .357 Revolver and a .22rf pistol should all end up in your collection.

As for the whole 1911's need a ton of maintenance thing; stop listening to the internet commandos.

I am also greatly frustrated by hearing this on every Internet outlet (minus forums). Interestingly enough, most gun forums on the Internet understand that the 1911 is not a unreliable design, it's mostly the commandos you describe on YouTube and similar.

I suppose from World War I to Vietnam the 1911 didn't work, right? :p

"...so I have both?..." Absolutely.
"...heard some things about 1911's..." All of that can happen and maintenance is required with any pistol. No moreso with one than any other though. Never heard of any 1911A1 in safe condition that went FA though.
'Mil-Spec' is a marketing term. Everything the military, anywhere, uses is milspec. No milspec SS pistols though.
"...I've spent about $1,000 on..." That much will likely buy you a proper Colt Series 70 1911A1.

You've already discovered that you are losing your shirt flipping back and forth; therefore, step one is to keep the pistol you have while buying the other, and step two is to admit to yourself that you are going to have handguns as a hobby and buy a gun safe.
