Those little, chunky Glocks go bang everytime you pull the trigger. I consider that the most import factor in protecting your butt.

PMFJI, but I also have been shopping for something in a CCW that has a high-C factor.

My criteria are pretty much the same as everyone elses - quality - as in reliability, nice fit and finish, cost not much of a major issue. Prefer 9mm, but there are adequate defensive .380's out there. Overall length as close to 5" (or under, as possible), but preferably no larger than 6" OAL and as close to, or under 1.5" in width as possible.

Here's what I've identified so far as possible candidates.

North American 380 Guardian: 4.75L .93W 3.53H

Kel-Tec P11 5.6L 1w 4.3h (is it just my imagination, or does this gun look too suspciously much like the Guardian?)

Walther PPK/S 6.25L 1.08W 4.25H

Kahr MK9 5.3L .9W 4H

Beretta 9000 6.6L 1.6W 4.8H

I'm inclined toward the Kahr and the NA Guardian, but would like to hear other opinions. There are MANY mentions of 'other' as contenders. Given the above criteria, what other CCWs under 6" in OAL would you recommend?

TIA

I actually think that the Taurus PT-111 might be a good choice. The gun just feels good in my hand. (I have fairly small hands.) It cost me about $300.

The good news: I still can't believe how accurate it is. It seems to be AT LEAST as accurate as my .38 Special revolver (6-in barrel!) if not more so. Trigger pull doesn't seem all that long and hard to me, but (unlike a single-action) it has little chance of firing accidentally. (Otherwise, I'd have definitely bought a single-action gun!) It is fairly small and light, has good sights, and recoil is not a problem.

The bad news: My gun has had problems jamming when trying to get the first round into the chamber (as posted elsewhere). Part of this was due to my ignorance of semi-autos but I still think there may be a problem with this gun. I am not sure this is typical of all PT-111s. The dealer where I bought it didn't see anything wrong with it when I took it back. It loaded fine for him. -Seems like it is loading OK for me now too. I thought you might want to hear about that.

FWIW - gun has never malfunctioned after firing a round. ONLY problem has been trying to get the first round of the magazine to load. (approx. 300 rounds fired so far.)

Good luck!

Logistar,
I thought we had this all thrashed out!!!
The slide on any autoloader must be pulled all the way back, then released, allowing the slide to come forward, powered by the recoil spring. This strips the first round off the magazine. Do this and you will be fine. However, if you are still unsure, by all means, send it back to Taurus to be checked. My PT145 is doing great!!!:D
