Was the list to be those guns of historical significance in technology improvement or was it to be of the most popular?

I won’t vote in the poll because I believe the selection is flawed in that the listing in American Rifleman is neither fish nor fowl, or is a mixture thereof.

That article should never have been written, or been written by someone who knew handgun history and what they were doing.

Wait til next month, when Beretta is whining that they didn't make the list even thought they're current military issue. (Are they serious? Good grief.)

1911 is hands down the top choice. After that, I throw my vote to the Glock, even though I'm not personally a Glock fan. After that, I think it's a matter of arguing over minutiae by enthusiasts. Not a bad thing, just not that important in the grand scheme of things. The 1911 and the Glock were significant.

Tough call between the Hi Power & '50's-'60's vintage S&W revolver.

Chose the revolver just because if you put a pristine '50's-'60s M19 next to the same BHP I would go for the Smith in a heartbeat.

Edit: Oh crap. Didn't see the Registered Magnum down there. Whatever. If I got a RM I probly wouldn't want to shoot it. Well... I would WANT to..:D

'Course, my interpretation of "top" means "My favorite." If they mean successful in terms of popularity, sales, longevity, whatever.... really, you have the Smith revolver, the 1911, and everything else.

Why I voted the way I did.

I voted for the registered magnum, as it’s the forerunner of all the fine .357 magnum revolvers I love so much, if one can love an inanimate object, yet as one poster wisely stated the S&W hand-ejector was the starting ground for all of the high quality revolvers, no matter what caliber, that followed.

FN/Browning Hi-Power. By far my favorite pistol of all time. I have two 1911's, and love them both, but nothing feels so "right" in my hand as my '72 Hi-Power.

As far as historical significance goes, I picked the Glock.

Really, I mean really?

Well, technically the poll DOES ask for "your favorite." No right or wrong answer. But...

The inclusion of "historical significance" really does take fanboyism into "Really, I mean really?" territory.

Tupperware was of historical significance in the leftover food storage industry...so there's THAT:D

But Clay,,,

That article should never have been written, or been written by someone who knew handgun history and what they were doing.

How are they going to sell magazines,,,
If they don't write silly articles?

I read that article and chuckled a bit at their choices,,,
So did Mr. Beretta in the very next issue.

Broomhandle Mauser for crying out loud?,,,
What true significance did that design pistol contribute to handgunnery?

But what the heck,,,
It was a successful article in that people talk about it,,,
Thereby keeping the name "American Rifleman" in your mind.

I remember in the past they published the very same article,,,
Same type article anyways but 20 or more years ago,,,
People didn't have the internet in those dark ages,,,
But at the ranges and gun shops of the time,,,
We argued the same points for months.

It's all marketing my friend,,,

laughed so hard,,,

Tupperware was of historical significance in the leftover food storage industry...so there's THAT

I spit coffee on my keyboard!

I think I heard someone refer to a Glock as a tupperware gun,,,
No offense to you Glock owners out there in cyberspace,,,
I just thought the reference to plastic was hilarious.

I found it,,,

a party is not the atmosphere to be presenting a weapon, unless it was a GLOCK at a TUPPERWARE party.

Stalking the elusive "plastic" reference,,,

I read it,,, I hunted it,,, I quoted it!

Sorry all you Glock lovers,,,
I'm not a hater, honest I'm not,,,
I just recognize funny when I read it.

Colt SAA

You can't really call yourself a pistolero unless you know how to handle and shoot a SAA.
