just what are you basing this statement on? i am basing this statement on the two 1991a1,s i owned, major problems with first one i owned so i figured i got a lemon sold it and bought another one and guess what?i got another lemon, then i figured you was just suppose to spend a few hundred dollars on a 1911 to get them to run right, kind of like feeding a dead horse, sold it bought a springfield and now own 5 kimbers no problems with springfield or kimbers :) this is what iam basing the statement on first hand experience:D

There's a Chicom 1911? That's like a matter/anti-matter collision or something.

GRD, it was the Chinese who made the Broomhandle Mauser in .45 ACP. Back then in the '20s they loved this round. They also favored Tommy guns for guard duty.

automainea-

Sorry to hear you had a problem with Colt. How long ago was this? Colt has made some pretty significant improvements within the last year or so, like completely retooling and going with CNC equipment. I honestly have seen nothing but good stuff from them since.

Handy-

I've personally seen two Kimbers with bad MIM parts; one was a barrel bushing with sheared off lugs, and the other was a broken extractor. I've also seen a website that had pictures of a Kimber hammer what had an impression in the face from the firing pin. I'll see if I can dig up a link to it. That said, I also know of one Kimber thats had 10000 rounds through it with no problems, and a couple others with 2k and 5k with no problems. So I think it's probably a hit-or-miss thing, and while I probably would be fine with MIM parts I don't have a problem spending a little more to get tool steel as added insurance. My main beef with Kimber is purely subjective; I can't stand the rollmarks and forward serrations.

Regards-
Brian

I bought a Springfield 1911A1 in Stainless Steel a few years back and have been very pleased with it. It had a few hic-cups in the first 150 rounds, but after that short break-in period it has been great.I really like the looks of the polished Stainless Steel.

Well for one thing the new Colts look completely different... they say "Colt's Government Model .45 Automatic Caliber" on the slide instead of "1991A1" and are much more nicely finished.

I've been buying Colts since the early 1970s and never got a bad one. Forays into other brands have not been so satisfying. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I'll stick with Colts.-TR

Other.

Head on over to cruffler.com, get yourself a Sistema, add a doo dad or two, maybe an action job if it needs it, take your wife out to a very nice dinner, and you are in with a quality Colt pistol for well under the $750 mark.

And SA's customer service is non-existent. Do a search on it here and you'll find ample evidence.
