To sell and have 1, or buy and have 2

I really, really want an hk45 compact right now. However, to finance the beast I would have to sell a beretta 92fs along with forking over some pocket change.

The fact is, I need something to carry and the beretta is just too damn heavy and clunky. It is a sweet weapon, however.

I do have about 600, maybe 700 in available funds at the moment. So the question is, do I sell the beretta to pick up the hk, or do I just settle for something slightly lesser (like a springfield 45 compact) and keep the beretta?

Let me pick your brains! I can't do this on my own

I carry nothing but full size guns and have not had a problem. Perhaps you need to find a better holster and belt.

I have carried a taurus pt100, springfield P9, Witness and colt 1911 government.

Currently I use the crossbreed supertuck and a good gun belt to keep my pants up. Other than needing some bigger pants, it is very comfortable and very concealible.
In t-shirts and shorts I carried the 1911 all around sea world and the state fair. No problems.

Prior to the better holster, I felt the need to get a smaller gun, and carried that for a while, but now I find no reason not to keep the full size.

But don't let that stop you from getting an extra gun. :D Just saying.

keep beretta and forget about hk45.

Hk45 is just a hype...low on capacity and not better than usp at all.

Beretta 92 is all round time tested gun. If you must change...get inox!

Alright, I think I'm gonna keep the Beretta, I definitely enjoy shooting it and I think I would probably regret letting go of it.

So, I have another question for you. I posted this up in the semi-auto forum as well:

My local gunshop has a Sig p220 carry, two-tone, for $700 used w/night sights. It is in good shape, no holster wear at all, however I don't know how old it is/how many shots fired.

It is not a factory certified pre-owned. It has a stamped slide and an internal extractor.

Wondering if this is a good deal, wondering if I need to worry about those extractor issues with the 220's...I think I remember hearing that Sig's warranty only applies to original owner unless it is CPO.

Yep that is what their website says. And CPO is only a 1 year warranty.
Don't know if they are like the others that say that and still warranty or not.
Like SA says the same thing, but most people get their guns warrantied anyway.

Seems a bit high.
Shows a cpo but not dual tone for 575 here

they are out, but I would look here for them or get on a list.

Keep the Beretta. Everyone I know who has sold a gun, including myself, has regretted it. IMO it's worth it to save and wait a little longer and then you have two guns. The more guns I have, the better I sleep at night. You might end up liking the Beretta more and a few years later you'll probably buy another one. I did that with my Sigma. I've vowed never to sell another gun again.

I have almost always regretted selling something to get the "new hotness" I just had to have at that moment. I want to build my collection, not just maintain. I would recommend that you hang on to the 92 and save up for the HK, or do a little research and see if there is something that would fill the need for a cheaper price. I understand though, sometimes nothing but that particular gun will work, so I would recommend saving for it. I keep a "Gun Fund Jar" on the night stand next to my bed. I tape a picture of the next gun I want to add to the stable and just add all my pocket change and spare dollar bills that I can scrounge up and then wait till it fills up. I just cashed in the gun jar yesterday and came home with a Kimber Pro Carry II, and now the jar has a picture of a M1A1 SOCOM on it and a 5 dollar bill in it!

I agree. Keep the one and buy another.

I just don't think you need to spend 700 or 800 on a gun to get quality.

There's plenty of quality (and capacity) in a Glock or an XD45 in the 450 to 550 price range.

Definitely Kermit, and so tomorrow I plan to bring my lonely beretta a friend! :)

So, I think the hk45 is out. It's just too damned expensive, and, aside from that, the USP is not only cheaper but also smaller which would fit my needs for CC better.

Tomorrow, I'm taking a wad of cash to the gun store. I'm gonna look at that sig 220 again, and also at the HK usp 45 compact.

I've been researching my next purchase extensively for the past month or two. Originally, I had looked at the xd 45 compacts. They seem like a great deal for the money - what turned me off to them is the striker fire design. I really, really like the idea of da/sa with a decocker for concealed carry...it just makes me feel more comfortable - although I think this could simply be due to the fact that I'm not familiar with DAO striker setups...not sure.

The XD's specs on paper are great for CC, but I haven't held one for a little while so i'm going to have to check it out tomorrow and see how the size is. If anyone that carries an xd compact could chime in it would be greatly appreciated - same goes for you guys who tote a USP or p220.

I have both the USP compact and the XD compact. The USP is in .40 and the XD is a .45. They are both easy and manageable to conceal carry. Shooting charateristics for both are great and both are upmost reliable. Another option I would have you consider is the SIG p239. It is small and easy shooting and can be had for your budget! good luck

You have already said the the size and width of the Beretta bugs you.

Sell it,buy the H&K and be happy.

There is one guy here that has a very, very used looking H&K that he absolutely loves.

I think he's,Hoytinak.

I carry a full size 220 during the winter. It's not light, but probably better than your Beretta in that regard.

See if you can find an older Sig 245. They have an excellent record, highly regarded for carry. Same as the 220 just shorter grip/slide.

I've always loved the H&K's. They have great reputations, you see them in Video games and movies, and they are well made and good shooters.

But about 2 weeks ago I went to the range and a guy let me shoot his H&K 9mm. I was "excited" to shoot it, it had a silencer on it.

I found it very uncomfortable, I wasnt able to get a good grip on it no matter what I tried. I was able to shoot it well, I hit everything I shot at. But I dont think it could ever be as comfortable to me as my Springfield XD, or even a Glock.

You already have enough for an XD or glock. They are great guns that are 100% reliable in my opinion. I think you would be happier with an XD. So get out there, find one to hold.... do some more research on the net, and make a good decision. Either way, Keep the Beretta, they are nice guns, and you'll miss it if it's gone.

I'd rather have a nice Beretta and awesome XD anyday, over and expensive and bulky H&K. I guess some people like the grips on them, but not me

If you want a gun to carry, why not one of those aluminum framed Smith revolvers. It is so small to carry, most of the time you just forget it is in your pocket.

This came up on another thread: find out how old those night sights are before you let them add on too much to the price tag. The tritium inserts have a life span of 12 to 13 years. The older they are, the less the value. If the gun store doesn't know how old they are, begin negotiations with the assumption that they are, for all intents and purposes, regular sights.
