To all of you CZ fans . . .

Now I get it. I just got back from the range, where I shot my first CZ. Specifically, I got the chance to shoot a CZ 75 Compact. All I can say is HOLY COW!

It felt FANTASTIC in my hand; the trigger was smooth and clean; and it shot like a danged laser! I guess I just got a new entry onto The Want List, and it's not going at the bottom . . .

Clearly, I need know more about CZ pistols. So tell, me CZ fans, where should I begin?

Try an SP01 in 9mm and CZ97 in .45 and let the CZ custom shop do a trigger job and competition spring set on both. Let us know when you get the smile off your face. Both guns will surprise you.

I have big hands, so I prefer the Tanfoglio (EAA Witness) version. I got a milsurp one for cheap and it is an awesome shooter. My FiL liked it so much that he bought a brand-new CZ75. It is a tiny bit smaller and also a great shooter. Both of them have great triggers.

I have never shot one, but lots of people say that the Turkish clones are also very good. I think I have seen them on sale at Academy for $349 or something like that. If you are itching to add to your collection, you wouldn't have to pay a lot. I think CDI Sales has milsurp ones pretty often.

I have the PCR and RAMI models with decockers, and a SP 01. I carry the first 2 regularly, along with a DW cco and Sig officer in my rotation. The CZ's are extremely well made, very accurate and, most importantly utterly reliable. The ergos on them just seem to fit me well, and my Glocks are increasingly left in the safe. Should you choose the PCR, you can easily change out the inadequate sights; I think that it makes for a perfect all round Pistol. And did I mention how reasonably priced they are?

Good luck!

It's been a very long time since I had that kind of reaction to firing a gun.

I always liked the looks of them, but I really liked shooting that one.

Can someone tell me about the Omega trigger? Or point me to a good source on info?

You really have to shoot a CZ pistol before you can fully appreciate the rave reviews. I like the stock trigger on my 85 well enough that I'm not sure how much extra an Omega trigger would bring to the table to where it would be cost effective for me. Maybe I have to try one with an Omega trigger first before I form an opinion. ;)

TFL member Walt Sherill seems to be a font of knowledge on CZs and their derivatives, so perhaps a PM.....

As far as I know the Omega system is supposed to be smoother and generally superior in feel to the standard trigger assembly, made of fewer parts IIRR so presumably more reliable but harder to improve with 'smith work. Yet you'd think that by now, if it were a better system, they'd have rolled it out to all the possible models...

I will say this: I bought an SP-01. At the time it was a toss-up between that and an Omega triggered standard CZ75B (which was cheaper). The Omega was definitely smoother, but both were better than my ex-G19, so.... I still felt that I got a better gun for my needs either way.

All that to say the Omega felt NICE!

Also, I have dry-fired a 75 Compact from the Shadowline edition models and that was like oiled glass. Shame they are so expensive here.

I don't know that I need or even want an Omega trigger. I'm also extremely unlikely to sell my G19 to fund this. I do know that I horribly overthink and over-research gun purchases, so I'll need to know more about all of The Options before I plunk any money down.

I am getting to shoot my first one tomorrow!! I hope my experience is as good as yours! From my research the omega is slightly better but harder to work on. A standard CZ trigger with a kit from Cajun Gun works is supposed to be far superior to the omega. Seeing as I tinker with everything that I own if I were to get a CZ it would not be the omega trigger. But if you prefer to not mess with your guns the omega might be the best rout to go!

But take all this with a grain of salt... All this is based on research I've done online and talking with friends. I have no hands on experience with the subject :)

I have three CZ's right now I gave my P09 to my son. I have a P07 Duty and a75TS 9mm This is the one I bought last year a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. This is in 40s&w. I changed the grips on this one.

Probably one of the best sources for info on CZ's. I've been a member over there ever since I bought a B6P back in the day.

As far as where to go, I will echo the sentiment of going to the flagship CZ-75B. I would also look at a SP-01 as well, as it is basically a 75B with a rail (there are other differences, especially among the polymer models, but the spirit is the same).

I personally own a CZ-75B and a P-07. The 75B has the "original" trigger, P-07 has the Omega trigger. IMO, the Omega trigger is slightly, very slightly better out of the box, but as you will find out with some reading the "original" trigger is capable of some amazing things with some work. I have not had work done on my 75B, but hope to eventually. Even in its stock form, though, it is no slouch.

Regarding the ergos of the CZ, one of the most incredible things to me is the wide range of hands that the CZ-75 seems to fit. It fits my hands (XL glove size) just as well as a coworker of mine who I took shooting not too long ago (S-M glove size). It's probably one of the most natural feeling handguns I've ever felt.

Just for grins, here is a (poor) picture of my Tanfoglio "clone". It is used and basically milsurp. It cost me $300. It looks like it has shot many thousands of rounds. I own two or three dozen centerfire auto-loaders. It the most accurate (for me) of all of them and my favorite.

Yeah, you should buy some sort of CZ75!

So do I-but isn't this part of the fun of it? :D

First center fire I ever bought was a Browning HP, mistakenly sold it after discovering the 1911. 30 years later I decided to get another mostly because of the cost of ammo.
Quickly found that HP's were more expensive than I bargained for, especially Belgium examples. One day at the local range I hefted a 75B and was immediatey smitten, after a little more research I sprung for an 85 combat. Most accurate 9mm I have ever shot and the ergos are damn near perfect. Liked it so much a couple of months later I bought a PCR.
Now I have the hots for a SP01 tactical, the things are infectious.

I've got a CZp01 - 1292 rds. and 1 stoppage that was almost certainly due to an under powered commercial cartridge.

It's my HD weapon, I have a light on it. If I wake up at night because I think there's an intruder, I want a first shot DA weapon to help avoid a mistake from not being fully awake.

As far as how well I shoot it, I keep track of my scores from range visits, and there's essentially no difference between my CZp01 and G19g3 scores.

Spats, since you already have the Glock 19 and played around with the full-size CZ 75, wouldn't you just love having a compact, poly frame CZ to go with your Glock as well?

I have well over 2k issue-free rounds with mine, and she's begging for more!

My CZ75 SP01 9mm is absolutely awesome. The only gripe I really had with it was the trigger reset from the factory is a tad long. I ordered up a Short Reset System from Cajun Gun Works and installed it and have zero complaints. Being a 1911 guy I went with the SP01 standard (safety) over the tactical (decocker) model.

What I love the most about it is the lack of recoil or flip and the fact that it holds 18+1. And it came from the factory with Tru Dot sights. It also come with what is, in my opinion, the best factory grip I've ever held on a handgun. It's a semi soft rubber that is super tacky and almost sticks to your hand.

I'm fairly new to CZs as well, I've only had mine for a few months but it is easily my new favorite pistol. It points naturally, has a decent trigger, and is very easy to shoot quickly and accurately. Careful of you get one though, the lack of recoil makes it hard to resist the urge to do magazine dumps! :D
