Titanium Gold Desert Eagle Impressions

Does anyone here own one? I'm thinking of trading my brushed chrome Desert Eagle and accessories for a Titanium Gold one in .50AE

The short version is my DE is chambered in .44 but I have a .50 barrel and magazines for it so changing the caliber is real easy. But I never shoot the .44 anymore, all my .44 ammo gets fed to my Henry Big Boy these days so when I take it out to the range only the .50AE barrel gets used.

I figure if I'm gonna own something like a Desert Eagle I might as well make it as gaudy as possible because why not? :D

But I have concerns about the Titanium Gold finish. My brushed chrome gun has held up incredibly well in the 10 years or so I've had it, no scratches or blemishes of any kind.

Anyone got some experience with one?

Hmm...

I know it's only one example and people almost never post a good experience online but this confirms what I've always thought about the brushed chrome being the most durable. That was a few months ago, wonder if MRI got their plating issue resolved.
 
Hard chrome is going to be one of the toughest finishes when it comes to scratches and abrasions. When worn by wear, it polishes up but maintains the silver appearance.

So comparing hard chrome to another finish? I can probably and reasonably assume it will be less durable.
 
I appreciate Corvettes, there are many colors available....but a pink Corvette wouldn't be my choice. Doesn't detract from the performance or ability of the car to handle like any other Corvette of a different color. Gold Desert Eagle is kinda like a Pink Corvette.:D
 
I'm with the OP. I'm not one for ghetto guns and love classic revolvers, but a .50 Desert Eagle is a ghetto gun by definition.

I say get the gold finish and a leopard finish to compliment it. Dual thigh rigs and a pimp hat. If yer gonna do it, do it.

having no idea what constitutes pimp or ghetto style (and no desire to learn) I won't comment on that.

What I will say is that while gold accents on a gun are classy a gold gun is crass, unless you are a James Bond villain. :D

Browning has, for generations, had a gold trigger. Classy.

not for me.

I've got a couple Desert Eagles, .357 and .44 in basic black. They would look good in decent blue. They're ok in satin chrome (or whatever they call the less shiny silver color). I don't care for high polish, or high luster finish on working guns. For me, its about glare and seeing the sights.

Never bothered with the .50. Doesn't do anything for me just because of the size. And its one more expensive caliber to tool up for, which has no commonality of bullets or cases with anything else I have. You've got one, enjoy it. If you want to replace it with the same thing only gaudier, that's your business.
 
I support your desire to go for the gold.

I’ve considered one of these for many years but something else has always taken priority.

My thought was the same...

A 50 AE Desert Eagle has no practical use for me whatsoever. I have shot one though, and it was extremely enjoyable. Very smooth and progressive recoil. Comfortable, powerful, accurate, decent trigger, and one big push at a time. I was sold on the idea of it being s fun gun after one shot, and the following six shots confirmed that.

Because of all that. I think like you. Might as well get one that looks the part.

I would go with the high polish chrome or high polish gold. Maybe a stainless version if it came as a high polish or I could polish it myself. Or maybe just stick with the brushed stainless because it still looks nice.

The flat black....???? To me it’s like having a flat black finish on a Lamborghini. A Lamborghini is not a practical car ( if you want to go fast, have something with a basic and non fancy finish, there are better cars for the money that would make better track cars to beat on and work with) a Lamborghini is made to LOOK cool, so it should look the part, and flat black is just boring. The flat black on a DE (to me) says one of 4 things... you seriously think this is some kind of self defense gun so you want to keep it stealthy, you would have likely preferred a different finish but didn’t want to or couldn’t spend the money on it, you really like flat black more than anything else, or you really don’t care about looks and the feeling of shooting the gun is the only thing you care about. I agree that a nice blued finish with some wood grips could be appealing.

I’d like to know how well the gold finish holds up too.

I must say this though...

The tiger striped pattern is just taking it too far (for my taste) I Have to draw the line there. That’s just getting a little too cheesy. Unless I only bring the gun out once a year for Halloween.

I wish my fingers were just a bit larger. I love the classic desert eagle look. If I could hold one comfortably I’d probably go with the chrome in .357. I wouldn’t say the gold is tacky, just not my particular cup of tea.
 
I have had the DE .50 AE. Flat black.

Gun is very accurate so long as you pay attention to how it being held when shooting due to the free floating magazine.
The problem I had with mine was the magazine having a metal nub that ran in a groove inside the grip that caused the magazine to hang up and cause feeding issues.

It's a damn fun gun to take to the range.

But that solid gold color is just uggg... no thanks and will go with what I originally said.. ghetto.
A DE .50 will get plenty of attention with out being gaudy gold pimp O'lishoius.
 
Real Damascus steel is totally unsuitable for a Desert Eagle. However a "Damascus steel" pattern finish would look cool. :D

If you like "bling" then gold is your thing!

Agree with the choices of finish, or not, you've got to admit, no one else offers the same kind of STYLE that the Desert Eagle does today.

I don't choose my guns, or their finishes to impress anyone but me, not much on "style" but clearly some folks are, and DE is smart enough to make a buck or three off them.

^That's what i meant there 44 AMP, an Damascus Steel finish on a Desert Eagle or if there is such a thing as "Damascus Steel plating".
